Hi guys, is anyone entering the Kustom Nationals at Phillip
Island in January?
I want to enter myself for the Sunday cruise around the trak but don't kow if I can enter. The website says per 1966 cars only, but in the past I know there has been later model cars. I don't want to enter then get turned away.
Anyone have an insite to this at all?

Last year I contacted the organisers in October to pay and pre enter, they told me there were only 50 post 1966 entries and they were all taken already.
So I went to Summernats and had a great time.

As its the Kustom Nationals  its not really the place for Toranas.

It tends to keep the Kustoms away.

Just a thought....

I used to go most years in my hg but since they brought in that rule i refuse to go at all. They can jam their show. It should be at least chrome bumpers. Not 66 and invite some later models. I can understand them not wanting mini trucks and those types of things but i think its a little unfair on everybody else.
Just my 2 cents

Its not unfair on the guys who actually have customs.

Why have a customs nationals full of old Holdens and foulcans that are lowered with paint?

Minitrucks are more of a custom than a HG streetmachine anyway.

Bear in mind I drive a lowered HT wagon with a flake roof, and I reckon minitrucks suck, but you are missing the point of a Customs Nationals.

Wot179 you are obviously sitting on the other side of the fence, which is fine I understand both sides.
But tell me this- if there was a sign at the top of the tunnel that said pre 66 left (towards pits) post 66 right (down to the grass area) wouldn't that keep everyone happy? If a Kustom person gets upset at seeing an 'old holden' or a 'foulcan' (which he probably owned 20 years ago and got him into this scene in the first place) then he doesn't need wander down to the grass area.
If this event was held at Croydon Town Hall no one would give a fr0ck, but being at a world class race track it is very normal for any man who has poured some sweat into a classic to want to attend with their vehicle.
FWIW I tried to enter my very original XY GS and they said no.

Hey, I love them all, but its a Custom event for customs.

Theres no way a stock foulcan should be allowed in, no matter how tidy.

If you allow everything in it will just turn into another regular street car show, and there are plenty of them now.

Its why there has been a shitfight at Bright Rod Run, (which is another story altogether).

This is the only major event for customs, and I know for a fact that many guys with customs stopped going because there were so many later models attending.

Which kind of defeats the purpose of a Customs Nationals if all the best cars stay home.

And Im pretty sure the 66 cutoff is to stop the place filling up with Musclecars.

Hey Grant,

I've been going to the Kustom Nats on and off ever since their 1st event. I've never taken LXCHEV (wish I had), but we've entered the missus EH several times. I did a day entry once with my old hatchback and got to cruise the track but that was before they tightened down the entries.

Every year there is always a handful of 70's muscle-cars there, but I believe it's by pre-entry only by a set date (usually months in advance), and only if accepted by the organisers. I'm sure there's exceptions from time to time.

I wish someone would run an identical event there but for muscle cars.... it would be outta control! The slow cruising isn't exactly exciting, but it's the backdrop of the track and the atmosphere of being surrounded by hundreds of cool rides that make the event so cool. Being in town for the weekend is always an experience in itself too, and the night time meets at San Remo and Cowes are fantastic.

These types of events with preferences for certain era's and types of cars will always spark debate and controversy, it's the nature of the beast. Muscle car owners naturally want to join in on the fun, but we'll never fully blend in or be welcomed with open arms. One day I'll build some crazy rod or an old yank tank to really fit into these events. Like I said... I wish someone would run a "Kustom Muscle Car Nats" !!!!!!

We went a few years back and took three cars down. I had nothing to do with the entry so I have no idea on the rules. The slow cruising was just that, but we had a whole lot of fun.
To me a custom doesn't come with a year cut off. If its custom, it's not stock and it was built with no rules. Mucles car, mini truck or old school sled. All custom.

My thoughts and two cents anyway

Seems I will give it a miss. Oh well

Im with you LS2 HATCH. They are all customs. Im not a big minitruck fan but i can aprecciate the hard work they put into them. Most of the rods around these days are glass 32 roadsters anyway. Only thing that changes is the wheels and colour. It would be great if they ran a show there for people like us. In the past years ive been there, it has been great. Something for everybodys taste. And i recieved alot of positive comments on my hg. The 66 rule only came in since john "chopper" died and the sons took over but if thats what they want thats fine with me. I just dont go anymore. It is unfortunate but there is other shows out there.
