I drove a Gemini across Australia,

and on the way back, it blew a piston through the block,

I looked into the rear view mirror at 110kph, and seen an atom bomb of grey smoke, before coming to a bang bang halt. Dave I

 

Sounds very similar to what happened to my sister in laws

 

That thing was off the road more than it was on I reckon.

The Camira had family 2 Holden motor in them as also used in Astras,Pulsars, Barinas and Daewoos.

Not realy a bad motor iv owned 2 family 2 powered cars given them a fair bootfull as work/pub cars and never had a problem.

Even if they do let go i know of shitloads of Ecotec V6 commodore motors letting go due to headgaskits the pulling water into block and sending rod out the side. Iv sold 3 in last 3 months

Yeah Camira looks like shit and has problems like any other car but atleast it was localy made.

Geez my G161Z used to cop a hiding everyday and never missed a beat. I used to get 80kph out of 2nd gear. Such a fun car.

The only time I've ever seen a rwd gemini with a hole in the block was when a mate of mine drained the oil out of his then went for a cruise..
