Where does the term 'Duco' come from. It is an old australian term to describe car paint work.

Duco is a durable, quick-drying finish invented by DuPont in the 1920s used in car manufacturing. It was produced into the late 1960s

Painted the A9X in acrylic, easy to paint but so soft and chips just looking at it! Started painting the hatch in House of Colour pearl and the quality and finish compared to acrylic is chalk and cheese.

I think the acrylic paint available today is nothing like the acrylic paints of their era so i would go two pac if doing a car now

I agree today's acrylic paints are not the same the original stuff - needless to say you can't have paint with 21% lead content (by weight of dried product). Here's a photo of a tin of the good old stuff I have from the late seventies(?)

Also, recently when I asked the local paint shop to match my acrylic they were doubtful on the results as the range of tinters available were limited compared to those in 2K. I got a litre of acrylic paint as a trial and sure enough it wasn't a match.

Ended up doing the engine bay in 2K with perfect colour match and a tough surface you can wipe clean of muck. I even managed to spill brake fluid on the inner guard and the 2K didn't flinch!.
