Is that the same as the 186S carb ? My 253 came with a 350 Holley so I don't know much about them.

186s is a bit before my area of expertese.

Someone on here will know though.

Can get a pick if it would help? Have one here.

Yeah, WW Stromberg used on many vehicles of different brands for decades, including 186S and 253 Holdens. One that has come off a 253 can't really be made to run on a 186 properly without major headaches, more than jet changes needed.

Varajet is Rochester is it not ?

The HK 307 had a type of 2 bbl Rochester too didn't it ?

Anyone ever tried one of them on a six ? Or either of the 253 2bbl's ?

Just curious...

there is two types of varajets , the one in holdens is a  strasbourg , the other one is a rochester. both look the the same but i don't know if there is a difference. The 2 barrel Rochester on a chev is different  , like a 4 barrel cut down.

One i have is a 253 one and i had it running nicely on a 202, but you may be right.

Cheers.

Not sure about it being a Rochester but AFAIK the Varajet is made in France.

So I learned recently the 307 had a 2 barrel carb.

BTW the Varajet is a two barrel two stage carb. Small primary venturi and larger secondary venturi.

The Varajet is like 1/2 a Quadrajet in principle, have said that there are a couple of different Varajets that were used on blue/black motors.

The differences with the 6 cyl WW Stromberg & the later V8 one is the position of some ports in the venturi.

As has already been stated, if the carb is in poor condition it'll never run right.

They get a mention in several Rochester books that I have, from memory they are made in France under license or something to that effect.
