also Air under low pressure will have movement, but air at High pressure is the problem

Yeah mate and i think thats a perfectly acceptable way of using such an item. 

 

If i had a box shaped Torana and a drop tank (ugh) i'd likely have something similar just to tweak the ride height after filling the tank....

Just had a look on summit website and they don't stock MGR 502 so they are not an option

 

American Monroe numbers are not Australian Monroe numbers

I've got air shocks in my hatch with individual air line & valves so the pair are not connected. I put them in to raise the car an inch when loaded & after I changed to a nine inch diff.

The space was tight with the 2 1/4 inch exhausts pipes going over the diff & was so close to the upper trailing arm brackets. The car would bottom out on rough roads when either carrying passengers or have a full drop take of fuel. Now I can put 40-50 lb air in & raise the car an inch & problem is gone. I have found no change in characteristic with the suspension with only 40-50lb of air as it's only un-weighing the rear a little..

Oh Garth..yes..raising that extra inch does give the car that slight '70's rake look. :driving:

The plot thicken ,any idea how to convert numbers as there is a serious price difference between the good old US of A and here.

hmm,

thinking a bit more and thought,

with the air/ gas shocky combined, and the ride height created, and the air pressure was equal to the gas pressure, now that would almost be neutral. Dave I

A bit off topic, but no air used here:-

 

I had a pair of Monroe front Shocks for the LC/J that were high pressure gas ones,

that out of car, took all your weight to make one go down, and when fitted, after a while, I would have to re-connect the bottom fasteners back in place,

because the force involved would act like a press, they were a sway bar in them selves, and I had a sway bar as well, they were the best ones I have used,

but I have not found another pair since. Dave I

According to the Monroe Australia site the shocks suit the following vehicles.

Searching Summit Racing for shocks to suit a 1975 Toyota Landcruiser gives the following.

 

Monroe MA728 applications

 

Gabriel HiJacker applications

 

In theory they should suit the Monaro. The shocks on Summit Racing do not appear to be the gas version.

 

They also appear to suit some Cadillac and Isuzu.

Thanks for that Andy ,so are we saying the ones on Summit not being gas charged are not as advanced a product

It appears that the Monroe Max Air are based on a non gas charged shock and the Monroe Gas Riser is based on a gas charged shock.

 

In theory the gas in a gas charged shock reduces the possibility of the shock oil becoming aerated as the shock is working which will give more consistent performance. So in theory the Gas Riser is a better shock than the Max Air.

 

I doubt it would make a significant difference on the street/strip.

Just ordered the shocks from Summit ,with extra air line kit to keep shocks individual,

Off to work for a week hopefully they should be waiting for me by next Tuesday when I get back .
(Unlike the HDT badge I bought on evil bay 10 days ago that I am still waiting for - and people wonder why you don't shop in Oz)

in years gone past I had a neat hz tonner with 15s and 60series,put the old "pump up" air shocks in it with individual lines. Worked a treat when u put a bit of weight on it. Didn't do much for the handling tho, a bit taily. but just typical of a tonner tho I spose. But I have seen the polyair bags used for a little height adj when loadin up ya passengers or droptank. and that's wot I am planning on using in my LX. and there price is not so bad.

Got my shocks today and tore into it


I can personally testify that MA728. Shocks DO NOT fit a HT Monaro they have a round hole each end and my car requires a stud for top mount.

This is where the joy of buying online from overseas becomes overwhelming !!!!!!

Anyone want to buy some air shocks going cheap
