Does anyone know whether the ignition switch (half way down the column) in an LJ is interchangeable with the switch from a VB commodore?
LJ ignition switch

I suspect not as the Commodore ignition switch has the 'ACC' position before the 'OFF' position whereas ACC in the LJ is after the OFF position.

Thanks Dave. Any idea where I might be able to buy one for the LJ?

Error in my previous post. Replace the word OFF with the word LOCK.
Ray, maybe try Rare Spares or Kingswood Country.

no. mine in the VH played up. the mounting bracket is on the opposite side to LJ,
but LJ & HQ are the same, #2811924 & maybe HJ?

The chrome bit keeps coming off mine , can that be fixed ?
I don't think so, it seems to be moulded to the barrel somehow.
I got one from Rares and have had some troubles with it, mainly that it doesn't try to start the first time i turn the key, but that could be due to other issues, I'm not sure.
They are great fun to replace......not......

Not correct.
While the actual switch will not interchange between the Torana & Commodore, the switching order is the same for all Holdens HQ/LJ right thru to VL.
The order is ACC - LOCK - OFF - ON - START. The key should only be removable in the lock position.

Ahhhh, Ok Dr Terry.
My memory of my brothers VB, VH and VK's ignition switches is different but I accept your knowledge is correct.
Cheers
Dave.

the LJ steering lock worked well too,
ran out of petrol one day and a busy duel lane road, Glebe, Sydney, when I turned the ignition off ( because of a previous burnt out coil ).
going around a curve ( idiot ), came to the straight and then the LJ kept going on the radius straight itto an oncoming Commodore, and took the whole side out before ending up in a tree on their side of the road.
could not get that lock off for the life of me. Dave I
I like LC ignition switches now

This is why ADR25A was introduced. This was the change in early 1978 where the ignition barrel was altered to a black colour which only had one ear.
With this style of lock, the steering did not lock until the key was fully removed.
Apparently there were a few fatalities due to steering locks of this type.

Thank-you Dr Terry,
Needed to know that it was a problem, I had wished, the key could of just unlocked it at the time. Dave I
