I'm in the process of cleaning/tidying up the wiring lume which is the one out of the donor car to suit the gtr dash cluster, when I get to the headlight connectors which have been butchered and park light globe holders taped on I go in to check on the car omnly to find out that it has orange indicators which I think are also the parkers, there is no cut outs in the head light buckets they are original to this car, well they where when I got it.
Question ...is it legal to have orange parkers on the front of my car or should they be clear, would hate to have to change it all later.

I thought you could only have orange indicators if you had parking lights through the headlight, you can't have orange parkers
so if you are keeping the orange parkers you will need to change headlights

Now, this is good Phillip and Limo,
never thought about this before, so when we buy a headlight, it has to have the parkers in it to. Dave I
the LC/J Torana's I have had, had white blinker lenses. hmm
and have Orange blinker lenses

I always thought LC had white and LJ had orange.
Perhaps a mid LJ ADR change?

Clear indicator lenses with double filament bulbs for indicator and park lights is correct for LJ up to early December 1972.
Amber lenses with single filament bulb for indicators and park lamps in headlights from early December 1972 onwards.
You can use the amber lenses as long as you change or modify the other components to suit.

Yes it was an ADR change effective for vehicles produced on and from 1st January 1973. However GM's poilcy was to introduce such changes into production prior to the ADR's effective date.
The one thing GM didn't seem to do was stamp the new ADR number onto the compliance plate of the pre ADR compliant build vehicles.

When I got my car (mid 73 lj) someone had put H4 globes in, moved the parkers into the indicator, cut the original parkers socket of the rest of the headlight sockets and then butchered the headlight buckets to accommodate the H4 globe socket.
From memory I think I got the headlight wires from a kingswood and removed the socket from them and swapped that socket with the ones plugged into my headlights, I also put standard globes back in that could accommodate the parkers. Now it is all as it should be for a late lj.

Phillip, if your front indicator housings have two wires they are for clear lens and double filament bulb. Single wire for amber lens and single filament bulb.

after market tip with these front lights
solder a wire inside the light to the earth strip and attach it to the self tapping screw that holds base to vehicle
the original earth through the bolt seems to give problems

Shizen, just realised there is a difference in the housing with the number of wires. I have 2 wire housings, anyone want to swap for single wire ones? I'll put a pic up soon.

Yeah single plug not double.
What you can do Marty is simply cut off the purple wire (park light wire) flush with the rubber boot and use a double filament bulb. Obviously there will only be power sent to one filament but that is all you need for the indicators.
