Looking good, maybe paint the inside with chalk board paint so they can design the inside themselves? :)

Chalkboard paint is on the list Danny! But my missus wants me to make a cut-out car shape from MDF, and then mount that on a wall as the blackboard. I still like the idea of just painting an entire wall with the blackboard paint, but we'll wait and see.

eyepeeler - that cubby looks fantastic mate, very cosy! You've even got guttering, haha! Nice work.

Gene - I was convinced the Hawks would fall away this year, but I've been proven wrong and they're looking the strongest they ever have. Having Buddy move on has ended up lighting a fire for us, 10+ goal-kickers a game. Let's see if they can keep it up. Who do you support? The missus is trying to make my boys Carlton fans, but they'll follow Dad and be little Hawkers for sure. Perhaps a yellow and brown "Hawks nest" colour scheme for the cubby! Mint!

Pretty sure Gene's a West Coast supporter, its been good to see them fall off the pace after their good early form. No surprise to me that the Hawks are going as good if not better without Buddy, now the forward line is less predictable. I go for the Kangas and probably the most frustrating side to barrack for the last few years. Their good is as good as any side but their bad is as bad as probably the 14th worst side in the comp. Got a bye this week so no yelling at the TV for me this week :)

Forgot about this thread! It's time to finish the cubby....

Finally some stairs for the boys...

kids_cubby_48.jpg

The little dudes - proud as punch!

kids_cubby_49.jpg

The handrail and balustrade came up a treat - gives it a real cosy feel (and keeps the kiddies a bit safer of course):

kids_cubby_50.jpg

kids_cubby_51.jpg

kids_cubby_52.jpg

Windows finally completed too now with sliding clear perspex panels....

kids_cubby_53.jpg

Interior fully lined - I used up every last scrap of material I had. This was a bit of a jig-saw puzzle, but there was pretty much zero offcuts leftover:

kids_cubby_54.jpg

This shows the runner grooves for the windows to slide:

Starting to look good now:

kids_cubby_56.jpg

Picked up the sign at the Caribbean Market and added the logo. They're obsessed with Batman so it went down well:

More photos soon....

Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words. I've had an absolute ball building this and watching it all come together.

Next up was the giant sandpit...

Started by boxing it up with some nice sized sleepers:

kids_cubby_58.jpg

kids_cubby_59.jpg

I also used sleepers to build a seat the full way around it, with cutouts to blend it into the main support posts:

This looked fantastic once fitted up:

Also note above the old blue sandpit the boys used to play in! Puts things in perspective.

All cleared out and ready to go. I laid some old shade-cloth down prior to the sand going in....

Finally sand!!!!!!! It took 2 full trailer loads.....

What a great time to make that comment Gene!! I knew it had to be covered to keep cats out, and also as much weather as possible.

I priced up professional sandpit covers locally, and they varied between $200 and $400!!!!

So my solution was another second hand bit of shade-cloth (free), then it was off to Bunnings (kids favourite shop in the whole world) for some bungee cord (approx $10), and a couple of packets of plastic eyelets (around $6).. and my Dad sourced some tie-downs (approx $15 from memory) - so all up around $30 spent....

I reckon it came up pretty good.... it holds perfect tension without ripping it, and this has been on now for about 7 or 8 months, and no signs of wear and tear or ripping....

Christmas Day last year was a good one - Santa bought the boys a 3m double wave slide! What a top bloke :)

kids_cubby_70.jpg

kids_cubby_71.jpg

With the slide installed, it finally felt complete.

Sandpit has been the highlight over anything else, it gets the most play-time. Even the big kids love it when they visit.

kids_cubby_72.jpg

The cubby itself is chock-full of toys now. I'm still yet to get power connected though ;)
