Drilling holes through carpet

Am about to mount the centre console in the LJ,so how do I drill the screw holes without grabbing the loop pile of me new cable

Or just screw straight through the carpet :)

Or just make a small slit with a knife.

But the soldering iron will do the best job.

Used to have a photo years ago from where an apprentice drilled into the carpet in a house.

Pulled the thread right across the room.

Needless to say there were a few people not very happy.
