If you can mount them so the door attaches to the bit that was originally part of the bonnet and have them rotate back to reveal the headlight.

So normally the light points down if you get what I mean.

Dave I, my 2 cents worth, but I think the 68 RS Camaro had it right. i.e. the light covers hinge inwards and towards the center behind the main grill.

Either way whatever you come up with it's going to look great!

Very Good Alex,

That's the way to do it, may have to make the levers longer to suit, or have sliding doors.

worth a try Gene too.

Here we go,

On the Steel Bumper Day, I picked up 2 off LJ Grille's,

One from Gene ( Centre ), and then one from Marty ( Outer's ), thank-you, you two.

I thought about it last night, and just cut up Marty's complete grille without chrome trims,

as you can see I have worked out a way to do this:-

Attached File  IMG_5517.JPG   24.27K   2 downloads

By, making the deeper parts of the grille be joined, we can have a modified outer curved piece to finish:-

Attached File  IMG_5521.JPG   31.73K   3 downloads

Attached File  IMG_5520.JPG   22.92K   3 downloads

As this is what will work, by putting the grille end pieces to the opposite ends of the main grille piece,

so having the vertical fins all pointing forward, and no front end Torana body modifications, and will still look good:-

Attached File  IMG_5524.JPG   133.65K   3 downloads

Attached File  IMG_5525.JPG   87.84K   3 downloads

Attached File  IMG_5527.JPG   104.54K   2 downloads

Attached File  IMG_5528.JPG   96.01K   2 downloads

The Main grille weighs 2 pound, 14 ounces ( 1.3kg ):-

Attached File  IMG_5522.JPG   42.32K   2 downloads

Attached File  IMG_5523.JPG   28.79K   2 downloads

and the two end pieces will have some extra weight removed, are One pound, 14 ounces ( 850 grams ):-

Next update pending.

I like how you've thought it through and what you've there Dave I and I LOVE the concept but I don't think that it will look like the 69 Rat as per the drawing....

Attached File  rat.jpg   26.97K   2 downloads

The grill isn't supposed to kick back out in the rat.  I think it would look better if it was straight as per the picture because then it would be following the front profile of the nose cone.

Keep the updates coming.  Where is the build thread?  This is a build!  :furious:

Hey Daz,

All good, as this is part of the Big Picture, as each Part has it's own thread too to keep subjects separated.

The Links of the others Parts will be combined into the Main Build Thread coming up.

So all I do now is darken the insides and will look good from the distance.

I know what you mean though, would look better as Pictured, but I will try this way first and see.

We can always create the parallel way, as I just need to modify the Torana front end to suit the deep grille ends, hmm.

Keep the updates coming.  Where is the build thread?  This is a build!  :furious:

Nice idea. Reminds me of the camaro with the full grill. Though im not a fan of the front spoiler.

No pop up lights though!! Make doors or just shine through the fins. Who needs to drive at night?

First few pics I thought that ain't working, but now I see it Dave. Looking good. Keek going Dave. I reckon this could be a car made by donated parts from members. Great way to use our spare parts that aren't up to show standard. I'm sure I have bits of stainless trim for grill you can have too.

Do tomorrow Ian,

Cheers, Dave. I just want to see how it looks when you can see the angles in the grill. It almost looks flat in the front on shot.

Nice work though.

Dave I, Great work!.

If not already considered would it be worth trimming a pair of returns cut from the ends of each grill and adding them the both ends of the widened grill. This would finish of the trim line around the perimeter.

Ah yes Aleks,

I got two Full depth Returns from the centre LJ Grille,

but did not want to shorten the depth, unless the shortened one ATM looks good enough,

other wise, I will be going down the path of making a parallel section for each end of the RAT Grille,

which in any case will be going down a similar path as 'The Gong' is - An Alloy Set.

so I suppose, it wouldn't matter if I did shorten the depth then, good thinking Mate.

If not already considered would it be worth trimming a pair of returns cut from the ends of each grill and adding them the both ends of the widened grill. This would finish of the trim line around the perimeter.
