Ok a bit on the car, 1977 SL/R 5000 ( L31 ).
All matching numbers.
It's never been restored, pretty stock with a few mod's.
Hydraulic clutch, electronic dissy a tow bar.
It's going to be a bit of a slow build, with as few mod's as possible.
The motor out and hopefully soon will get a freshen up soon.
Gearbox has had a rebuild all ready to go.
New clutch kit.
The first thing will be sand blasting under the master cylinder and the battery tray, very little rust, but want to make sure that I get it all.
I'll put up some pictures tomorrow so you can see what I'm taking about.
Then second I'll be doing is the brake's, cleaning out all the line's and reco the brake parts.
So motor is all ready out of the car, the head's are off and all looks good.
I'll probably be asking a lot of stupid and dumb question along the way, as I only drove the car for 4 years then put it in the garage for the last 12 years.
So I don't remember a lot about the car, except it was a lot of fun to drive.
So it's had a long rest.
Better stop now, before everyone falls asleep.
Thanks Victor

Before you ask the red paint is kill rust, I put on 16 years ago.
Victor
As the paint had previously been damaged by holden.
As you can see on the invoice no charge for paint work. I like how they spell Torana. lol
My daughter's are 4 and 3.

Congrats for not going through with the sale - you would have kicked yourself i am sure later on
All good giving it to the kids but you have to have your turn first dont forget
In case you havn't seen it have a look here as it has a lot of great tips and even better advice from people who have been through what you are into right now

While the heads are off and in case they havn't been done yet, it might be worth while getting the inserts etc done to take ULP
Cheers and good luck with the build

If the battery tray is any indication there may not be a lot of rust in this old girl

I'm trying to show all the good & bad bits of the paint & body work and wanting to know some ideas of what to do.
Same goes with the interior.
Thanks Victor

mate you would be crazy to pull that car apart and start cutting bits and restoring it,,, just get a paintless dent mobile guy to come around and ask him to help sort the dents and then just brush touch what needs it.
cheers gong

I think the value in that car is as a survivor car.
Its in great condition for its age.
Check behind the hinges. If its not rusty there I wouldnt do much to it at all.
Rather than start a love affair with it in the garage in pieces, start the love affair doing what it is meant to do. Be driven.

What he said not to many left in that condition very rare these days if you intend to keep it leave itBuff and detail. Put engine back in. Drive it.

Thanks for the response.
The plain is, not to modify the car, what mean only change what I need too get it back on the road.
It's been in the garage for 12 years.
What I was trying to show with the paint work was the bubble come up. I got a razor blade and cut some off.
More of a dark stain like in the picture of the battery tray. After I blasted it.
Don't want it to get any worse than it is now.
How do I stop or slow it down without taking it back to metal, if possible.
Inside the car is not to bad, the drives seat is too far gone to save but the rest is pretty dam good and can be saved with a bit of work I think.
Sunvisor have gone a bit soft and sticky.
Been looking for threads with little trick on saving as much as I can and not just replacing everything with repo stuff.
Any help would be much appreciated. Even link to others build threads.
But there are still a lot of thing I have to do, to be able to pass it on to the kids.
As my kids will not get to a driving age for another 11 to 12 years.
Thank you once again Victor

Get the battery tray spot blasted. And under the master cylinder. You can buy a cheap sand blaster to do the job.
Treat it with rust convertor Maybe then KBS or POR15 to protect it.
The window edge on the door looks like a bit of rust under it.
Sand treat and repaint.
If it was mine I would just do that and a duplicolor touch up.
Spend some money on the motor.
Clean the brakes out.
Check behind the hinges and the radiator support panel.
You could have that back on the road for very little cost.
Envious much.

Unrestored is far more appealing.
(and profitable)
You can't change your mind after its pulled to bits, it'll never be the same.

I agree with above posts. I would keep it as a true survivor & avoid any exterior body/paint work if possible. At the most, any areas such as the door/window frame in your pic, I would keep the repair as small as possible. Even though that colour, to my knowledge, is a clear over base metallic, being acrylic lacquer a good old school painter will be able to blend the colour without having to repaint or re-clear coat the whole panel.

Thought I'd put some pictures of the front & rear door vinyl and show the factory mounting position first two pic are driver's door, next three are rear door driver's side.
Might be a help to someone.
