Over the last few months (years)  there has been more than one forum argument about the holden show cars or one off design specials that have been lost from view.

My young bloke has the recent AMC copy and as i don't buy it anymore, i grabbed it for a quick look.

Lo and behold, an article by Ben Stewart on the very subject.

While it doesn't affect me more than casual appreciation for the design studio, I have liven big Al some shit over the years for his constant chase of the XU1 V8. Not for his enthusiasm, but rather his constant comments any time the conversation has any room for him to pipe up ( let it go Al !! )

Al came to mind when Barney's shirt appeared, and anytime the argument of crushing these cars is put forward , i think of Al and his constant search for his unicorn. Mainly because, involved in senior management for my latter work life, i know how management and bean counters think. From this aspect, their is no way you would crush up a billable piece of stock.

So bugger me dead when reading  Ben Stewarts article, (page 82) he shows a letter to dealers asking for tenders on 35 company cars.

In the fine print it clearly says LJ82911 painted Lone Oranger, sold with 27 000 miles on the clock. The sub comment says, vehicle comes with brand new 202 after running a v8 for 18 months.

so go hard Al, the truth really is out there .

( fark me, he'll never shut up now)

The orange car was stolen in 1985 and never been found so far, still listed as stolen on Vic Roads Records, the Vic rego number was LGN307, first rego in Sept 1972, after the V8 program was canned ?, when it was stolen in 1985 it had new Vic plates on it and not LGN307.

All i know of the lilac monaro it was a show car done by Leo and the Barney Shirt LJ XU1 to show off the new models at the car shows, the lilac monaro had a 350 V8 and Barney was used later on to do the spoiler kit for the V8 XW7 program

I have a copy of the tender notice showing the PSN's of all the cars on it, as do a few others. So it is well known exactly which GTR is the orange one.

I'm not going to be the one who publishes it and opens that can of worms. We've all seen the BS that flies around because the LC/LJ service/warranty report is public. If the car is known my guess is it'll suddenly appear as a "barn find". I'll leave that decision up so someone else here (if they choose to), who has put significant work into researching these cars. I think that is fair.

Good on you Welby for bringing up this topic. I have referred to Al in the past as "a dog with a bone" but not in a derogatory way, more in the sleuth context, and wished him well in his endeavors.

No-ones memory is perfect, facts were perhaps smeared "back in the day" by GMH, GMH people were perhaps told to remain "hush". That is the open minded approach I have taken towards these topics.

Fact: There is a GTR-X shell being rebuilt "out there"

I wish I had more time to research this stuff, but it's bloke's like Al and Laz that make the effort and find these cars.

I have my doubts if the Orange GTR will ever show up, was stolen along time ago, i hope one day it could for the car and Joe Felice to greet each other, yeah it takes time and some luck to find and come across any info, as Larry would know as well.

Well one day I will, maybe in a Book :deal: lol, but still trying to find info out still, as Ben Stewart article in A.M.C Magazine tells us all that they did not Destroy any of these special cars, as I all ways thought they didn't, The White GTR going off the Age Newspaper Motoring Ad in March 1974 was Sold as a V8 it seems, so Owners of that Car would of known that GTR was a V8, so someone in Victoria should know more you would think.

Anyone found the HQ Monaro with a 160mph 427?

So if the orange car is still listed as stolen, if it surfaces one day, who owns It ???

The insurance company (if it was insured), the owner it was stolen from (if still with us), the person who finds it ????

What a nightmare court case that will be. Who ever has the best barrister in in our legal system wins.

Good luck to the person who may one day drive this car on our streets.

Dont know of a 427 monaro but Leo Pruneau took delivery of a LS monaro fitted with a 400 oldsmobile engine.... But he couldnt get it registered so the 400 was taken out and a 350 fitted so he could register it..... The car is still alive today
