Hi my name is James I have been a member for a while and I have been loving all the info and projects that are up here especially the Marty report.

I am 18 and live in Perth, a while ago I bought an lj 2 door to do up with my dad this is a long term project as dad has had a stroke and I thought that this would be good therapy to keep him busy and help him recover. (So I thought I should start a project thread)

Dad restored another lj for me as my first car as I love toranas, before he got sick, and I am looking forward to trying most of this one myself with his help and hopefully lots of advice from the members of this forum.

The car needs a lot of work with lots of rust in all the usual places and a few missing parts so it’s going to be a steep learning curve for me. I have started to strip the car down and find some parts that I need to complete the car.

The goal is to make it into an xu1 copy with a Holden v8 in it, I have already got the approval from the licensing department and I want to paint it Purr Pull.

After getting it home and starting to strip the car we found a few nasty areas that the last rebuild had just filled with bog. It was good fun getting the doors off and it saw me making my first custom tool for pin removal

Started to cut the rust out of the passenger side of the boot. I have picked up a rare spares replacement section that I will trim to fit and weld into the boot. Whats the best product to protect the exposed rail and can someone tell me the best weld through primer?

Thanks
