As a first year apprentice sparky it takes a long time to save some spare $$$ however just got some bits from Rare Spares

A bit of motivation to crank up the grinder and welder hope the parts fit

Can anyone tell me or show me a pic of where I have to brace before I take of the front Guards.

I made a dolly to make it easier to push around, a bit rough but it will do.

Got a test colour to see what Purr Pull looks like, should look pretty good I hope

Thanks Maz,

Toranas are so much better than all the plastics that my mates drive and I reckon its going to be something to remember doing when I get as old as the old man lol

Are you going to use those guards again for something else

Check your new guards to see were you have to cut to the old guards to the nose cone

ok mate i can help you here if you want,,, the only question are if you want to keep the old guards and or are you replacing the inner guards as well??? if you are not replacing the inners then this job can be done to perfect.

post-24021-0-40034400-1408975153_zps97a6

first cut panel away from the car at this red line,,, why doing this be careful not to cut the inner splash guard holder and also leave the little lip that spot welds to the door pillar [blue arrow] then grind them spot welds pulling on the metal with a pair of vice grips,,, this will let go and leave you with a clean surface [no spot weld drill holes to plug up].

now you have done this i would clean and fix the inner sill,, sit the outer sill in place with clamps, then refit the door getting you gaps right with the new sill then tac weld into place.

IMG_5683_zps004ea57a.jpg

then you can cut the guard away from the rest of the panels with out drilling holes in them, leave the lips on all joining panels and once again grind away leaving clean surface.

now you should be left with something like this,,

torana3_zpsa566fa9b.jpg

with bonnet still in place and door and sill fitted your gaps should be spot on now you can fit the guard with all lines and gaps spot on.

repeat this to the other side if you need any help just send me a pm,,, in the mean time i will be watching.

ps prep is the key to a great finish.

cheers gong

Ok I guess this might have had something to do with the rust

Lets just cut some speaker holes through the kick panels in the car and let the water come in ?

Its a common problem... Ive came across a few.. I also weld up the inner kicker panel cover screw hole.. and use vecro to hold it there.. and the antenna hole as well...

Ok thought I would give the passenger side kick panel speaker hole repair a go

I was able to track down a donor panel from a rusty Lc 4 door so after cutting it out I taped it over the hole and cut

it out with the grinder.

Quite happy with the first attempt as I am a novice welder with Dad looking on when he can.

I will finish grinding down the welds and fix any misses tomorrow after work.

Next thing will be the lower inner sill front as it has rusted away does anyone have a pic of the LHS Front inner ?

Also if anyone sees any mistakes please yell out before I get to far

Thanks

James

Make sure that you brace/tack/weld on some bracing in your door frame before you do ANY work on the sill/floor area,,To keep in position or it WILL move.. look through my build threads.. Their are some pics there some where..
