same here! it was the only thing I left on my shell as I couldn't see how the arms came off to get the vinyl cover off. But after this thread I had another go and the arms are just pivoting on a plastic bush, bit of wiggling and they came off, then removed the vinyl cover and found this foam thing with the metal back on it. As someone mentioned the back of the vinyl cover goes under the piece of timber.

From memory, boring old self tapper, pan head, #2 philips, zinc plated, length can't remember.
