Hi all
I can not for the life of me find the piece that goes between the two folding backs on the hatch rear seats. I can only find the vinyl cover.
Any one know where I could buy one?

I am also looking for two rear arm rests. Can these be purchased anywhere. I can only find fronts or the rears for the 4 doors.
I have two but are crap. Or is there a company that will refinish them?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't think you can get hatchback rear armrests easily.
I had mine remade by Dash Original in Adelaide.
Recommend their work, they are busy so expect a long wait.
I had the armrest ashtrays removed as there is one in the back of the console, how many ashtrays does a non smoker need?
Here is the result.

Did you get onto "boomfunk" about the hinge cover?

Paul,

There isn't a piece per se.

Went through the rear seat ringer a while back - no expert but nowadays pretty familiar with what goes where.

There is the triangular bracket which is welded to the body behind the seats, then a half round firm foam piece which screws to the front of that bracket and then the vinyl cover.

Does this sort of help?

And on the rear arm rests for a hatchback, pretty sure it was Rare Spares who suggested on here a few months ago they are soon (if not already) turning their attention to remaking rear arm rests.

Regards, TB

Yeah no joy. They dont have them. I asked if they will but never heard back.

I am going to try a dash restoration place in Brisbane today so hopefully they can do them.

Yeah I have the piece welded to the back. Just don't have the hard foam bit. I would have thought someone would be reproducing them by now.
I am going to try a dash restoration place for the arm rests.

Paul,

Do you mean this piece;

IMG_0706_zpsf5de63ee.jpg

It is just a firm foam piece - that old fashioned type of foam which goes all crumbly with age.

I reckon any firm-ish material - foam, rubber or whatever would be just fine in place - happy to send you dimensions if you need.

Here is a photo which sort of shows it in place;

IMG_2233_zps3672800c.jpg

Also, on one of these I found a metal rectangle piece which goes between the triangular seat-back hinge support and the foam piece - supports the length of the foam piece.

All the others I have found haven't had it - not sure therefore if the metal piece is OEM or not.

I put the one I found into my car because it seemed the right thing to do - support the old foam piece that is.

Cheers, TB

That must be it. I have never seen one so dont know.

That would be awesome if you could send diamentions. I will just make a foam thing like that then make something like what you said to help support it all I guess.

I rang the dash doctor in Vic and they can recover the rear arm rests for around $120 each aparently.

Thanks TB. I will have a look tonight and see if I can work out a foam piece to attach the the hinge frame I currently have.

Hope this helps Paul.

113mm long;

IMG_0707_zps0c6b8670.jpg

31mm wide;

IMG_0708_zpsd581ec9a.jpg

34mm tall at the highest point and the centre of screw hole is 50mm from the thicker end - the top in this photo;

IMG_0709_zps02160dc5.jpg

Finally, the foam is hard - you can't compress it when you squeeze it, hence my suggestion that cutting this out of a block of rubber would likely do the trick as opposed to trying to find some foam of this type.

Probably be more durable too, especially when tightening the screw because it sort of cuts its way into the foam as you tighten it meaning you can't get the screw tight and so the foam piece can turn a little - not  a problem once the seat backs are installed of course but I'd like to have it 'home' as tight as I could - it even pulled a washer in that I fitted to overcome this.

Cheers, TB

Thanks mate.

So the cover must go over it all once the seats are installed then? The cover that was on ebay didnt have cut outs to go over where the pins come out of the back rest for the hinge? I wouldnt expect you have to cut a hole in the side of it so the seat will clip into the original bracket or maybe you do?

I sould have just throw it all in the bin and put some mega tubs in the dam thing!

Nope.

The cover goes on first and then the male part of the seat-back hinge goes through a cut in the cover and into the female part of the bracket.

Have you got the plastic sleeve for the female part?

I am as certain as I can be that they are the same as used on door hinges but only plastic and not brass, however the brass would likely do;

http://www.rarespare...1001&brand=RARE

The covers I got from C&G Auto Upholstery http://www.cgautoupholstery.com/ - 'Boomfunk' on this forum has small cuts for this from memory, or maybe I had to make a cross cut - cannot quite recall now sorry...

Here is a link to an image on their covers: http://cgautoupholst...32533729c81c86d

It is a PITA to get the hinge into the bracket because the cover slides about and there is little room for fingers, but with some persistence you get it done.

The piece of foam is glued to a 1.5 mm steel strip that is attached to the bracket with a Philips head screw, the hole in the foam gives access to the screw. The steel strip is a couple of mm smaller than the back of the piece of foam.

You could make the foam piece out of wood. There would be no need for the steel strip if you used wood instead of foam. All it really does is give support to the cover shape. The replacement cover will probably already have padding stitched in, if not then you could glue 1 mm foam to the piece of wood.

Yeah. I bought the cover from boomfunk today. I will look tonight for the plastic bush but I think its missing. I will just turn something up on the oldmans lathe.

Ha I was thinking wood ls2lxhatch. I reckon it would work. Or a piece of aluminium but wood would be quicker.

Thats awesome. Thanks for all your help guys. I will wait for the cover to turn up and see what i can come up with.

This is what I have left. So if I make the foam bit you just put the cover over and then glue it to the back wall then.

From memory the top rear most piece of the vinyl cover is pinched under the timber cover that is directly behind the seats.

Looking good.

Yup race the car heaps, mostly at the local 1/8 mile track. Well that was till recently when life and more important things keep getting in the way, back on the track soon enough with the new engine :spoton:

The wooden replica looks great. Like you might get pestered from other forum users to make them one too.
Now I seen what it should be I think I have one in my boxes of bits that come with the car.
Good stuff guys for getting the dimensions of that piece. If I can't find mine I sure can cobble one up.

Yeah thanks so much everyone. And I noticed I am retarded as the pics come from Tyre biter!
But thanks again to everyone for your help.

If it fits I will make a cardboard template of the shape. Can just post it to anyone that wants it then.

Wish I'd thought to ask about this when I did mine :banghead:

If I can be arsed, I will get around to putting mine as it should be - one day...

Good post Paul, another thing I have learned because of it.

That piece you knocked up looks perfect - job well done!

And no worries about the attributing of photos - none at all - happy to help, or (as it turned out), hinder as well :D

Cheers, TB

So will look tomorrow and see how the wood bit goes. Will keep you posted.

If you print the photo of the original foam, then enlarged it on a photo copier untill it comes to the actual size, you end up with a full size set out.

Only an idea :)
