Hi all,

I am trying to work out a way to get proof of my LC's history.

For example where it was first purchased and number plate etc.

I've asked at the RMS when I first bought the car and they confirmed for me that it has always had the same number plates they haven't even been reissued from damage etc. But the lady said they couldn't print it out for me.

So is there any other way to prove all this without the log books?

I just want to because the car is all original. I really wouldn't care about any of the info if the car was modified at all.

I will. I've downloaded the form from the RMS site and will go and drop it in there tomorrow. It says it may take a few weeks to get a reply. So fingers crossed.

Just make sure you you are not ordering the vehicle history, I ordered one of them and aside from telling me the periods of registered operators it was pretty useless.

The form I downloaded has a section where you write the specific information you are after. So I've put it in point form pretty straight forward and hard to muck up.

Dropped the form into the RMS today. Its not a good start when the lady had never seen that form before and had no idea what to do with it. But she was very helpful and looked it all up and has faxed the form through and will post off the original. This may take longer than expected to get the information ..... will let you all know when I hear back.

Speedy,
You don't have the plates?
What about your purchase bill of sale for the car, rego plates?
Any old rego label on windscreen?
I f you ask "Bazza" and give him the ID plate details he cane look up the VIN details and it may have the selling dealer.
Under the privacy act Rms or any government body can not give out who owned the car without first contacting them.

Terra, yes I have a copy and the receipt, she even photocopied the receipt onto the copy.

XU, yeah all government departments are useless.

Grumpy...

I've got the plates on the car, the car is registered. I just have no log books and want a few things clarified in writing. I'm kinda going overboard, but she's a survivor car and I want proof that the number plates are the original ones. It might mean crap to others, but it means something to me.

When I bought it I asked the rta and they said it has always been registered in NSW with the same plates.

I know there is a log on here with the LC models that says what engine, gearbox, colour, dealer etc

My issue is when I searched for mine in the log it came up saying the dealer was in VIC (from memory) and my car according the RMS has always had NSW rego.

I'll try and find that log again and re-check (it's been a few months). According the Original owners it was bought at Max Wright Penrith, even has the old sticker remnants in the rear window and the numberplate surround for max wright.

Speedy,

Looks you have a start on your cars history, now it's a bit of luck for more detail, Try Bazza he's a guru on the VIN.

I was lucky with my LC I'm the third owner, the guy before me had every receipt and  bit of paper, rego etc  all the way back to the original purchase,

Happy hunting,

G.

You were very lucky.

We bought from a 91yo. Who said he owned it from new. Searches show 2 owners but his answer to that was it was transferred into his wifes name when she started receiving the pension so they could claim the pensioner rego. But they had lost the log books....

If it was from Victoria, and you know the Original Engine Number, you can try A.O.M.C in Victoria, they do Checks by Engine Numbers, there is a Fee, u can down load the form from there on line site, and if they find your Engine Number it will Link it to a Vic Rego Number, then with Vic Roads Archives  you can give them the Vic rego number and they can check there Microfysh for the number plate.

Just open your bonnet, get the numbers from the body and the tags, and PM Bazza.

He will tell you most of what you are after.

Alternatively, you could give him your VIN and Engine number from your rego papers.

Good luck, looks like a nice car.

I'd love to see some more pics.

These days with electronic pink slips; are they at least keeping all the information on a database somewhere?

It'd be good, for those that want to know, to be able to look up where the car was each year, how many km's it had done, etc.

If they think they can make a buck out of it down the track then they probably are.
