Any tricks, to pass on?
My heater core has started to leak, I knew I should have done it as just in case before I fitted air con!
I ordered a new one from Kingswood country.

Take lots of photos as you pull it apart once out.

Watch the plastic gasket/packer orientation between the housing and the fire wall.

Beware the studs coming through the firewall are prevented from turning by being a square head that locks into the plastic heater housing.

Take your time and DON'T force anything, ask here first.

What the baron said

Take photos of the orientation of the flap control levers on as to where they are in relation to the flap position

Biggest pain of the job is to get the levers and their mates on the opposite end without doing your narna - they just slide on and off but they dont like the off bit

Be aware of the two metal retaining plates on the side they are a pain as well

Also if the sponge on the flaps is stuffed you can buy the thin foam type from an upholsterers

Just wire brush and sand the old stuff off

I sealed it with some mastic down the join in the box

Oh and be gentle with the black and blue vent tubes coming out the top  - it will break your heart to see how much it costs to find another set

They can be very brittle

Got it out ok, the core was leaking bad, my biggest problem was I installed GM under dash air and it had to come out, I hadn't gassed as yet as I'm waiting for summer to get right temperature for the conversion of R12 to Hychill
I got the new core from Kingswood country it's all alloy, need to do a bit of foaming and clean it

Who's doing the hychill?

All done and back together working well

i used Hychill as it is a better gas to use in R12 conversion, the Hychill runs lower pressures and a lesser volume

as example a normal 134A system will run 25-35 PSI on the low pressure side, the hychill is running 12-18PSI, 4 degrees vent temp

the high side runs around 50 PSI lower than 134A

as to whos doing the Hychill, Iam, I have all the equipment at work

I can't find anyone in Sydney to do or sell hychill, I even went to the trouble to get certified to do retrofits but it seemed all to hard to record and lodge 134a gas with ARTIC etc for a handful of one off jobs, can I just buy cans of hychill?
Is the mix much different to butane or propane, I was going to try a mix of that next.
