G'day all.

I'm after a flywheel for my 253 motor. I've been searching wreckers and online, and doing some research. I found a NEW one available online for a reasonable price, but I'm confused about the ring gear tooth count.

I'm looking at this one: http://www.ebay.com....tm/131280341910 which has a 158 tooth ring gear. I have read that Chev is 163 and Holden is 153... so what is a 158 tooth ring gear? A bet each way? Is that going to fit with a standard M21 box and bellhousing? Will it chew out my starter motor gear?

Cheers.

308 is 153. Chevs have two different sizes of flywheel with the 168 tooth being 2" larger diameter than the 153 tooth.

Being an American company and carrying on about it being for an "internally balanced" motor I would say they have no idea what a Holden V8 looks like.

I recommend you ask them.

Fair call. Question sent. They seem to have a lot of flex plates with the same 158 tooth ring gear. Interested to know if anyone here has purchased one and whether it actually worked.

Why don't you just get a used one? They are pretty common. You'll probably pick up a whole engine for a few hundred $.

As in the well known for its rubbish brand? I don't see that anywhere in the ad. It says it is Speedmaster. Or are they one and the same?

Why not just get a YT9903RPM,7.0 kg,$445 from yella terra but usually a bit cheaper from a YT distributer.

Those little v8's will idle with just a flex plate so no need to worry about big heavy junk hanging off the crank.

Yea I thought that flywheel was Procomp. I found that in my research. I can't afford a YT flywheel. My budget is very slim. I can't find a decent second hand one either. The seller pointed me in the direction of ringing them with any queries. I might do that and see what they have to say.

You should be able to buy a good used one in Sydney. I think they are the same for all 253/304/308/350 right up to whenever the Getrag was used in VT and VSIII. So anything with an Aussie 3spd, Aussie 4spd or T5 should be the same (but check first).

These guys are selling them new for $350 so they'll probably be $275 elsewhere:
