Bear in mind I have zero experience, so I am highly likely to be wrong. :-)

15 flat with 2.78 ratio diff.

Change that to something more race appropriate and you should go 13's

Cool thanks. What do you recommend 3.55?

If you want a good all rounder (ok for strip, ok for street) then yes the 3.55 is a good ratio for you.  If you want to be quicker on the track and not worried about being a pain on the street then 4.11 or 3.9 would be the go.

Depends on what you want to do with your car.

With a set of gears a mid to high 13 is very likely.  With a 2.78 you be be around the 14.5 mark.  16's is way off in my eyes....stock 5000's will do a high 15 with a 2.78 diff.

Its pushing through a dirty great bleeder, not a 4 speed.

That's at least 50hp off the top.

I would be shocked if it runs a 15 at all.

14.5's all day! A stall negates the laziness of the auto!

It doesn't negate the horsepower drain of a TH400

Take it to the track and let us know who was closest.

Yeah will do. Keen to find out how it goes. The t700 I heard is a much better box than t400 for performance. 1st and 2nd have low ratio and also heard they have overdrive

Gees,I am running a T700 and a small stall.  Didn't suck the life out of my quater mile pass.  A T400 with a stall will kill a M21 off the line and down the qaurter. Hence me saying a stock 500 does high 15's. We will have to agree to disagree.  A VN head 308 with small cam, and an auto and stall should do a 14 second pass easliy!

Moreso the T700 runs the T350 gearsets, a lot smaller and lighter.

Cheers.

Low-mid 14's is around the mark seen for std efi 5l in torries.

Decent size stally & gears some got to mid 13's at best, std engine,2800 stally & 3.7-4.11 gears...high 12's with good compression bump & small cam.

Start with some shorter gears & good tyres then see what happens

first of all depends how well you can drive..

car should run high 13s to a very low 14 with little fuss if its ok tune and depends a lot on your driving ability..

with the vn heads and bit of camshaft i personally wouldn't expect any less matter of fact I would I really expect it to run a lot  harder,..

based on some of my recent and past experiences..

a couple of months ago at a muscle car shootout I ran my stock red L34 290hp factory L34 HQ heads 4speed m21 3.08 lsd diff banjo ..

car went 13.7s @ 103mph quite easily and also ran the speed of 106 mph all these were done going through the traps in 3rd gear..

so I would certainly expect a 308 that's be vn headed and auto to go a lot quicker..
