I did not say anything to suggest police should not be able to access it. I made a comment that it would be unfortunate IF police "were" to use / act upon some of the trivial/small illegalities/ grey areas that they witness on the forum.

Please read my post again as I do not appreciate being misquoted, or using my words out of context.

My words- "if anything like this was acted upon I would find it very poor form" This statement was made in reference to the photos etc of cars that are regularly posted on here that illustrate some evidence of not quite kosha mods legally speaking...

My words were drafted from a perspective I think it would be a shame if agencies were to dig for dirt on relatively trivial matters through this forum. I did not suggest at any stage that police are not welcome here OR that I do not like them being members, nor did I make any reference to suggest that I did not know that Police may own toranas also...

To put things in context, the OP was Victorian Police informing us of illegal Muscle car re-birthing, and then 2 or three posts later, a mod indicates that police often check in here (and I was making reference that I hope that they are 'NOT' doing this for negative reasons to enforce relatively trivial matters).

Personally I think it would be great to have police officers constructively involved in the forum and in car clubs- but I was talking from a completely different context.

Its always quite humorous to see how people can twist words.

The first thing many employers do with prospective employees is look on Foolbook or other such places on the 'web such as forums to get a feel for people's true nature. I know of a few people especially late teens to early 20's that were horrified by this, ranted about how that was a breach of privacy etc. They don't yet that how you behave in public includes the virtual world. To me this would be no different for Police or other such authorities.

Totally off topic but no, the internet isn't the 'web, the web sits on top of the internet. Internet has been around since the 60's, WWW didn't exist until 1995. There is a great book called I think "weaving the web" by the web's creator whose name eludes me, it is a hypenated surname.

Col, I would suggest caution about drawing conclusions from a news report. Remember, the media are notorious for not letting the facts get in the way of a good story, just as the cops are notorious for staying silent on what they know and are doing behind the scenes. Unfortunately cases like this take some time because all the i's have to be dotted etc., so it holds up in court. It will all come out eventually. JP

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it's not business as usual for the 'crims'. There were members on the forum all the time before the bust and they haven't been seen or heard of since.I'm also sure it's a safe bet they're very busy 'assisting with enquiries'! JP

So You assume,

* one state

* one shed

* only a few people involved

5 months?

I assume!

* its bigger than reported in the media.

* Volume is causing the delay.

* more people will be burnt between the initial report in the media and court.

The moment the names come out is when it stops.  In the meantime its business as usual.

What I know is that any enthusiast wanting to buy into the holden muscle car market needs his head read or an x-ray machine and a concourse judge.

And the  secracy surrounding identification of cars is the crims greatest asset. When every buyer can spot a fake is when the faking stops.

This shit has been going on for ever and a day...more-so now because some of these cars are becoming quite rare and desirable,it affects those that have the real deal more than others that have base models.

Like said..the shit probably goes a bit deeper than we realise, and who knows who is involved.

just because some media report says this or that can mean 2 things.

To spell it out from both sides?..it may be just some "backyard mob" that have seen an opportunity and taken certain advantages

from various sources and used that to an advantage....$$$

It could be that it goes a bit further and that someone/s "knows" a bit more more and that there is a more organised mob than some are saying on a TV or newspaper?

more $$$.

Nevertheless ,it was one report regarding the matter and is being "checked out",the general public may never know the names

of those involved, such is the way the media/? works...possibly for the benefit of those involved or those not involved.

dunno, either way, someone has/is getting ripped off somewhere?

thanks for letting me back Mick :)

I'm not going to try and defend my post, other than to say I did not believe at the time it was breaking the rule.

apologies to the mod/admin team for any issues caused. :)

I reckon there would be a copper or 2 reading all the posts on every forum of interest.

Good intelligence gathering.

They are used to sifting through lots of shit to get to the prize.

I agree, I just think all the dribble discourages a police response.

I dont see the point of this thread being open.........

If a forum is to discuss, and we can not shame incriminate in this particular thread, then what is possible to discuss apart from useless forum dribble

Have I missed something ?
