Would L34 type heads work on a 253. Would the larger valves over fuel the engine.

No it would assist in breathing, perhaps wasted a bit , but it would work

Worst thing you can do to a 253 is put heads on it that has big valves/ports...it kills them.

had one with big valves, it was horrible...stock is better on a 253.

^^ yes and yes, they only have a roughly 500cc cylinder and even stock heads that have unshrouded valves on a good 308 is good enough.

Just my opinion but sometimes bigger is not always better despite the flow rates, air speed has a bit to do with it as well.

Bigger on stroker 308 will help but like everything in the engine world we have to compromise somewhere.

In most cases the 253 was ditched for bigger cubes...understandable...i think some of the "better" 253's were the ones that used the tin head

gasket that were prone to leak but they had better compression that helped, as soon as you put a bit of a cam and big valves in a 253 you can

watch the stock standard ones pull away...the good sixes just leave them both for dead :)
