Hi guys keen to know what this 308 donk came out of before its sold.the stamping looks like someone was

pissed at the factory.the first number 8 seems like it wasnt hit hard enough and have had anther go at it

and that strange v above p then looks like an A on its side and the x  aswell are these just errors or

some kind of hebrew stamping.numbers i can read are 887122p and the one behind water pump 10G3

any light shed on what this donk is out of would be much appreciated

Haha that ones a shocker. I think VP stands for Vic Police so maybe restamped after being stolen and recovered?

I think it is either  S887122P or S87122P. Either way it is a SA Police issued number from 1988 or 1987. It was probably in a HQ-HZ with an A/C compressor making it hard to stamp.

really .stolen and recovered. lol. how does that work,stolen and returned to owner

 

this was in maddogs lx 6cyl hatch which my other brother bought from s.a in 2006

i was thinking like that aswell yel327 whether its s87.whoever comes and look i hope they cant read the numbers

I thought they only restamped if old number machined off, surely if stolen and recovered number would still be there and they would take off paperwork list not remove number and restamp??

it does Al hey.it might mean greetings earthlings haha.how many numbers they suppose to have

 

thought atleast there would be letters at start .surely its not all restamped.as it would have to be milled ?

 

its definetly one of a kind put it that way

 

my brother let it run out of reg as he was struck down by lymphoma and lost his job.then when he was better

 

put it back over the pits and it passed no problems

Does the motor still run ok etc and is it complete with Acc

yes it has everything,hasnt been going for quite some time .2009 i think .has been in my brothers shed.mad dogs and we picked

it up from bullets( brother)s house as hes just put his boat in there .and is now down at his place

i dont really know exactly al, probably around 1200.was a good runner my first impression is that he was selling as he mentioned

it should be worth 1200 as he wants to go chev.thats why i wanted to know a bit more about what it was out of before that happens

thought it could of been out of hatchback .will find out exactly if he has made up his mind to sell it now or later .

It is definitely not a GMH engine plant stamp, so has been either decked at rebuild time or was a new block, but there is no doubt it is a Police number. I can't recall the exact timeframe when the V8 date coding changed from US to Aussie style, I thought it was after July '73. If so the block can either be from a WB, VC or VR (but unlikely if it has an '87 or '88 Police number). If it is '73 it is a HQ block. Definitely not a Torana block. What is cast into the side(s)? If it is a 4spd block it is '73 or '83, if TH it is '93.

Hi yel327.atm it has a 3sp traumatic on it which was rebuilt just before bullet bought it, only seen 308 on the side but did not see any other 

markings.i didnt look that hard though.it has been painted over the orange which i thought would make it before 80s .

 

wouldnt be out of a hj cop car would it.motor is at his place now so cant look it over....bummer.

 

motor is very mild. has 650 dp.electronic dizzy.dont know much more

ive just text maddog .hes not home but said there is no orange on donk.red paint under black on sump and oil pump.rest is black

looking at first pic i put up looks orange on head.my eyes are frocked lol

if its a black motor.would that be 85 in vk.say if it hasnt been stripped of all paint?

Has to be '73 or '83 so not a VK.
