All

While the car is in being painted, I am now looking down the path at sound.

One of the things I refuse to do is drill holes for an ugly car antenna.

In the past I have seen antennas that are stuck to the inside of the windscreen and wires attach at the bottom corner. ie there are fine wires stuck to the inside of the windscreen and at each end there is a wire that goes to the antenna of the car sound.

I dont mean one like this: http://www.ebay.com....L-/321545373917

Any ideas/experiences?

Thanks

Glenn

I have a Chev K20 with the antenna in the windscreen. Factory I think. It only has an AM radio so I don't know how well it works with FM. It picks up ABC regional OK though.

I did this myself years ago.

All I used was a single strand of telephone wire.

Tucked it under the rubber of the windscreen.

Did it on the inner part. Between rubber and screen.

Then plugged it into the radio.

Make sure the radio chassis is earthed.

Worked well. Cheap as. Bit of fiddling is all.

The one you say."not like this" I am useing without any issues apart from dont get the best signal in a shed. Otherwise there a great option.
I to didnt want the ugly antenna on the outside of the car.

I also run one of these, and I am very happy with it. You cant see it from outside of the car if you can mount them high in the dark tinted section.

Maybe a rear demister kit would work.

Like the wire in the rubber idea, another option would be run a wire to front area of car "hidden" in the harness.

Although antenna usually like a good "ground plane" the center of roof is best but to be hidden that is not an option.

Could try the rear demister coil if fitted, plenty of wires in a car that can transmit/receive a signal.

The wire needs to be reasonably clear of the body work.

As the body earth is generally attached to the shield of the antenna cable the body work will still act as the ground plane.

So having it amongst the body will basically shield it from the signal.

I found that reception was pretty good for local stations, but that isnt quite the issue compared to when I did it in the early to mid 80s

Lots more stations around now to choose from.

I ran it up one side, across and down the other. Found creating a full loop wasnt quite as effective.

These window ones can be picked up from Jaycar ... front is for a 2 way and rear is am/fm works good.
