Can someone please confirm if this would be correct to use on our 2/73 Brissy built XU1?
If not, please point me in the right direction
Cheers.

Just because it doesn't have 'disc' stamped on the face of the nut doesn't mean it isn't suitable to use.
Does the nut have anything stamped on it and what is the cast date of the cylinder?

Seeing as the nut currently has nothing stamped in it you could have the appropriate info stamped to suit your car.
At the end of the day I reckon an incorrect dated or in this case undated big nut m/cyl would still look better than an aftermarket alloy job on your XU1.

Can you buy a rebuild kit for a big nut that includes all the internals, not just a rubber kit?

I ask because I have this one, but the piston is damaged.

Yes, I damaged it disassembling it, and I forgot to remove the little screw inside the resovoir.

Hi Tony
Your last pic of the bottom of the cylinder and that raised pad beside the 5 generally has a date code on there. Be something like a number, letter then number again.
Basically day, month, year.(eg 3B2)
Some are near impossible to read but are there, tho its obvious that you can't see it once on the car without a mirror or something.

Hi
It is hard to stumble across the correct one. I have been trying to get a DISC August or September (H or J) 1972 for about 8 years.
Anyone??

Hi Bazza
Are you after just the nut??
I have 4 or 5 here and think I may have a 72 but don't know what month it is.
I'll have a look over the weekend.
cheers Dane

Hi Dane
Yep - just the nut is fine. I would buy the whole thing if I have to but I have already had the master resleeved and fitted with new seals. An xH2 or a xJ2 or an early xK2. Ideally an xJ2 would be the go.

How do I know if it's correct for disc brakes?
It has a 1" bore.
If it is off a drum/drum brake car it will have a residual line pressure check valve under the brass brake pipe seat in both the front and rear ports.
These are located under the red plastic plugs shown in your pic.
Conversion of your m/cyl from drum/drum to disc/drum is as easy as removal of the residual line pressure check valve from the front brake pipe port.
New brass seats are supplied in the rebuild kits.

Looks like everyones had a shot at that cylinder
Has both Perth Brake Parts and Repco Reman's markings on it
As Marty said kits are avail with pistons if req
The same guy sells just the big nuts with no stampings if you ever need one and just stamp your own info in it
Its the right casting shape for your car too which is a bonus
All those style of cyl are 1" standard

but I'm thinking I won't have to by the sounds of it. Just get this one sorted.
Spot on Tony.

Its already got a stainless sleeve in it
May as well use it
As a sidebar I've been approached to reproduce the big nut master cylinder casting
Not sure if theres a need though

There is more demand for the HK/T/G style master cyl. There still seems to be plenty of HQ/J ones around.
