I have no time any more, we are too busy karting these days and I have moved the car to another location so I don't see it much anyway. I have an offer on the car so it will be going soon anyway.

Why so long since the last drive?? Don't you miss it?

I'm hearing you there Dave, wipers are very ordinary at best.

Driven mine in the wet a few times, the yellow one and brown one. Both go well, yellow gets a bit tail happy fairly easily though.

i think wipers and windscreen fogging up are the main issues

but tyres do make the difference

I've always put Rain-X on the windscreens of all my older cars. No need for intermittent wipers.

I don't plan to take the Hatch out in the rain but when it happens it happens, and I recon its heaps of fun, 513hp 383 with true track L.S.D adds just a fraction of over steer, Ok heaps. I had to do a second lap around a roundabout one day as it was still a bit to sideways to make the exit first time around, so I had to keep the drift going. Luckily with the power steering and the faster steering ratio it easier and quicker to catch one handed. The Yokohama tyres surprisingly have good grip.

Lucky I didn't have it out on Wednesday around Windsor, big hail stones for 15 minutes, no rain just hail stones the size of golf balls.

Some interesting comments here, I would hate to own a car I was scared to drive in the wet...

It doesn't make any difference to me whether its raining or not. Have spent a lot of time making the car handle as well as it can, it works pretty well these days.

I agree...  when I first got my XU-1 (1989), it had Bridgestone tyres on it,   and in the wet,  where I joined the highway near my place , I could spin the wheels easily in first, second, third and forth in a straight line, it was terrible... (in a fun kind of way :3gears: )    I put Yokahama 509, I think they were, on it,   and the difference was incredible, I could barely spin the wheels in first gear at the same place..   Tyres made a huge difference,    and I agree with 76lxhatch....  if your car is scary in the wet, there is a good chance there's something wrong with it... or you ..  :blink2:

Don't take it out when it rains, but was caught out once and was like driving in snow. Cars were backed up behind me going up a slight hill, the lightest throttle would wheel spin. That was when it was auto and big convertor, no fun at all, more embarrasing as I was all over the road ended up pulling over and waiting for it to stop.

Mine drives like any typical LX torana in the rain.  Be careful and you are fine.  Play silly buggers and you are not :-).  Good tyres do, help though!

Rain was never an issue when I had my LC

But they were common back then.

Never really had an issue driving at speed in the wet apart from what I already mentioned.

I remember the first T/A Radials.

They were diabolical in the wet.

Then they brought out the chunkier design which were ok until about half worn.

If you were serious about driving you steered clear of them.

From memory the Uniroyals were pretty good

But I loved Michelins

The Little Torana's in Winter, as I used the LC for Work, Rest and Play,

Remember the Rag on the dashboard ready to wipe the Fog off the inside Windscreen,

quarter windows folded right out, to force feed wind into the cab, in the hope the Fog will dissipate.

Wasn't till years later having an air-conditioner on demist, when that problem was fixed.

I find my 138 quite easy to control in the wet.

I also enjoy getting a foot shower as I drive in the rain.

Open vent windows and a wet knee with a rag on the seat to wipe inside the screen.

Situation normal.

Rainex, heavy rain and 100kmh, better not using the wipers :)

Been caught a couple times, it's just as you would expect. Accelerate nice and easy any your fine, just don't rush. Not unusual to be in 3rd or 4th at 25-30 km's so you can drive off without wheel spin. High diff gears and a Trutrac will do that.
All in all it's predictable, but I would much prefer my wife not get caught in the rain with our little one in the back.

My tyres are not very expensive so may well be a big contributer to my wheel spin

Rainex is great stuff.

I drove to Toowoomba from Sydney in the pissing rain with no wipers the whole trip using nothing but Rainex.

Brilliant stuff.

be good if we could have an anti-fogging one for inside the screen.

My UC was fine in the wet (currently off-road with diff issues) - but I'm running a near-stock 202 on LPG so it's predictably gutless. I've never been spoiled with any of this new-fangled ABS/traction control stuff - I learned early that wet roads are bad news and I drive them very carefully.

Having said that, I've had wheel slip a few times on wet roads even with a gentle take-off. I've also slipped a wheel when crossing over tram tracks (used to live in Melbourne). And this was with decent quality new tyres!

there is an anti fog for the inside of the glass made by the same people,

it works ok i guess, just very hard to get a showroom clear windscreen as is looks a bit smirry from the outside,

unseen from the inside,

i have bad issues of fog as i dont have a heater, only cold air fans, they work okish but not great.

The best thing to defog all the inside window glass is to have an air conditioner going, and there bloody great during summer to. I turn the upper dash side vents towards the side glass, and the defrost and heat selected, push the A/C button and the whole cars windows defog in around 45 seconds, even the hatch glass.

So is this the reason not many drive their cars in the rain ? I always thought it was so it wouldn't get dirty or rust....
