Hi All,

I want to put a 3.08 diff in my LC Torana 186, but I don't know were to get one from. I know mine isn't a 3.08 probably a 3.55 or something, I don't know.

How do I know exactly what diff I have, and what are things too look for on a second hand one.

And what how many different diffs were there in Toranas, or were they all Banjos.

Also I see that there are some advertised as V8 3.08 ratio. Does this mean they wont work with my 186.

Thanks very much

The standard diff ratio fitted to manual LC 6cyl Toranas was the 3.08:1 ratio. The exception was the GTR XU1 that was fitted as standard with the 3.36:1 ratio.

LC 6 cyl automatics got the 2.78:1 ratio as standard.

Most likely your LC already has a 3.08:1 diff unless it has already been swapped out for something else.

The difference between a 6cyl and V8 banjo diff is the V8 yoke is bigger to accept larger universal joints.

Thanks as always Dave. Any markings or anything, on the outside, or inside.

The diff ratio should be stamped into the metal flange on the yoke. May need to give it a good clean up to find it.

Also the two bottom diff mounting bolts (at 6 and 7 o'clock when looking at the diff from front) are long bolts on 3.08 and 2.78 ratios.

3.36 and 3.55 have a short drain bolt at the bottom (6 o'clock), all the other mountings are studs and nuts.
