no probs ian ,..I just watched that clip again and actually remember quite a few of them cars..the funny car was graham cowin's high performance car,and I think the other funny car was the l.a hooker mustang,.that 2 door hq monaro towards the was a 427 twin turbo car street car was absolutely ballistic in its day it was racing fred dudak hq 4 door..the falcon that was racing the hatchback was dave missingham and the other 2 door I'm pretty sure was called shotgun...great era of racing when pro-stockers were running high tens and race cars were a little bit affordable..

LA Hooker was at the track last weekend racing with another 16 fuel funnys, most owned by Cowin.

Apparently he plans to tour them all around the country putting on shows.

It was a pretty cool sight .

Joe, if they get to run it again you would have a great time at The Castlereagh Drag Racing Reunion.

Local politics (complaints about noise at the cacklefest they had)  has caused it to stop, but it may happen again.

graham cowin is a real pioneer for drag racing in this country and has spent a lot of his own money promoting drag racing,..

when I was kid he sat me in his funny car and I took a picture of me in it..he has been a very good friend to me,.i use to babysit his twins nick named cyclone and hurricane..

i have a funny story to tell that involves graham..in the eighties around easter they used have 3 day meetings with top fuelers, funny cars,pro-stockers..back then graham was driving the syndicate funny car,..

anyway after the meeting I decided to drive to end of the dragstrip in my lj torana and chuck donuts in the breaking area when suddenly another pair headlights beam in on me,..

well it was graham in is two-tone 5litre sle commodore and decided to join me chucking donuts until security came and disturbed our fun...

I personally loved castlereagh drag strip caused at the time it was out the back of no where and a great drive to get there...one era that can't be repeated...

that would be great Craig,..As I went to a drag racing reunion at the Liverpool catholic club about 7-8 years ago or so..

I remember those old cars form magazines when I was in primary and high school, still have most of the magazines. My all time favourite was Greg Flagety's Shotgun Falcon hardtop. Not only was I too young to ever attend Castlereagh but to far away. I remember traveling to Newcastle from Orange, family holidays, can't remember what road we were on but my brother informed me that Castlereagh was in there and I did see the sign and that was as a close as I ever got to go there.

Regards

wow...brings back some memories there Chaos...we used to go there from time to time....I clearly remember that Old Yella Chevy...it was one tough thing.

I recall it was in the era of the XY Falcons...there was a XW there, blue colour like the Torana Cyan,   it was as tough as..( for a ford).

Like Joe? said....It was absolutely in the middle of nowhere in those days....seemed to take forever to get there....then back to Paramatta for a cruise up the strip....then wind up to Newcastle...via Wyong  etc etc pre M1/F3....used to get home way late/early

Shoot....how old am I??

Ta for the footage mate. Good stuff.

I was a bit young to go, but my brother used to drive down from Newcastle and race... he had a HD X2 with a hot 192 .... used to go real well...          when I was about 10 he used to take me over to Ash Island (Kooragang Island) for the Drags, that was an eye opener Monaro's,  Falcons.....  I remeber my brother saying, if you see people running, get to my car, because the cops will be coming......  and they did....  It went on for years, until a couple of deaths pretty much put a stop to it.

Cheers Col ........  merry xmas  to you and your family mate ...... :)
