Shame it happened and what a pain in the arse. Not having a car over Christmas will suck, or it will make you rush a decision.
On the other side of the coin, great to hear the mechanic is a good bloke. My thought would have been that he wouldn't pay. Most places have a sign/policy of leave at own risk.
Either way, a good outcome to a shit situation.

Merry Christmas

If the key hadn't been left in it he may have had a case for no responsibility, but obviously there was no duty of care there. That's my opinion anyway, and I'll add that it wasn't the owner himself who did it and he's told me he basically tore a couple of people a new one over it.

Anyway alls well that ends well. I've got another car to get around in and will be looking for a new one after Christmas

Everything seems to happen right before Christmas. I cooked the engine in my VT and it's cost me over 3 grand to get it up and running again!

Coppers found the VT a couple of days ago. Dunno what's happening with it yet.

But I did get payed out for it by the shop owner and it's been replaced by an LS1 WK stato.

I guess you have to do the right thing and sign the VT over to the mechanic seeing he paid you out?
