read this in regards to my car rolling when in "park".

"Never engage Park when the vehicle is moving or the Rear wheels will lock and a loss of control of the Vehicle will result. In extreme cases the Pawl will shear off and the Governor Hub will be destroyed causing an expensive rebuild or replacement."

hoping is not the "extreme" case.. as prefer your mention gtr of hearing that it may be a simple fix if can get into gearbox!
anyways, here's the puzzler,.... am quite SURE that the car used to go into "park" and stop rolling!
so am wondering, that now ive fiddled with the trimatic selector again that it's just a tad out still.. and that's why it now "rollls"

that's what i'm hoping, anyways
will post more details when car been to mechanics for the rear brake work.

The rare spares website has a calculator to input your car specs to determine which speedo gear you need

cheers davis! will use that along with the other one was given,

but the problem i have at the moment is my inner gear drive is perfectly "green", or a discolored white? or yellow?

..so am unsure of what details till can count the teeth on it.

once have done that will use the calculator

---------------

re "rolls in park"

"check that the linkage or cable is putting in into park properly as i had the same prob in my hz i adjusted the cable and she is locking great now.
get under her while shes in park and see if there is any advance movement that can be made"

again, here's hoping

Hopefully you have already tried this but if not...
Have you tried disconnecting the control rod that goes to the box and then put it in park at the box to see if it will still roll?
That will prove what is at fault, the shifter setup or the box.

Often rolling in Park will just be a linkage adjustment.

As someone has said, manually put it in Park. You will probably have to disconnect the linkage to do it.

Then adjust the linkage back to suit the Park position needed.

Disconnecting shifter rod cheap(free) way to test if shifter issue or auto.

Tbh they're hard to break jamming into park unless done repeatedly or as said above high speeds...most still didn't break (no comment!!!)

If it had serious damage you'd notice when driving it.

*If you can work out what actual diff ratio, tyre size & speedo gear then muck around on calculator untill it matches then you'll know teeth on green gear.

thankyou every one, whilst you had left messages i was out under the car doing exactly as you mention.

car parks now. hooray!

took 4 goes.. bloody jacking up, stands, adjusting, dropping down and testing... and repeat another 3 times aargh!

but i got there!

(what may be the cause of all this seemingly unnecessary trouble... is i think my shifter .. and mounts... are all about 2cm forward than they should be.

you see... the hole was put in by previous owner... and i stupidly assumed correct placing. so.. i mounted shifter, sat my console on, marked mounts where sitting, and welded.

think having the shifter a bit forward affect the throw, despite my belief it shouldn't affect it.

and having to drill the console bolt holes "forwards" half a cm to accommodate the nuts should really of sent alarm bells off. but it didn't. idiot.)

gtr, kinda tried that earlier with the calculator, but was a few that kinda matched nearby, so couldn't pinpoint.

but.. what i did do while i had the car up is chucked the red one in.

gonna take for a drive and see how much better.. or worse lol

will post results very soon

so here tis..

red gear in, the car was doing 46-7k's when speedo said 50k's

and

92-3 when gauge said 100

not too shabby!!

so, on the calculator..

using the 8 toothed "white" (and my specs and red gear...)

Speedo Details
"Speedo Accuracy is :  -8.75%      at 100kph, your speedo reads :  91.3kph"

exactly!
so, therefore my  "green" drive gear is a white, i'd say.

and, if i buy a green cable drive piece... i'tll be spot on, cays the calculator!
"Speedo Accuracy is :  +0.34 % "

time to add another unexpected cost to the project.

as it is, the car surely must be in the running to win the worlds loudest in-car noise car competition. jeezus!!

am going to strip interior and add about 5 thick coats of kill rust epoxy, and a layer of sound deadener, and maybe a felt underlay too.

also a few more coats of sprayon deadener in wheel arches.

Yeah Dynamat is the new rage.

What's the issue exhaust drone or heat?

*never added heavy heat insulation but have added mufflers/resonator either for exhaust drone(v8 lc gtr) or too damn loud need earplugs (355 vh sle)

cheers dave, looked into the popular choice dynamat, but am also considering stuff called PingJing

hard to pinpoint gtr. is a loud exhaust for sure, but not "drone" as such thankfully! (have had that before, drove me nuts)

and no heat problem noticed.. as yet anyways.

is more just engine and general road noise really. (not tyres... i think)

i know these cars are supposed to be loud/fun, but i love cruising to music, and as it is it would have to blaring.

i don't have underlay and only have thin carpet. a bad combo for a start obviously.

so am going to go whole hog while dealing with it.

Oh man that butt has come done one day to sit level with front...or add fluffy dice then always wear ugg boots + flanno for the full 70's effect haha

It's come a long way dude.

and studded green army jacket with iron maiden patch, for full effect! lol ;)

dheers gtr, almost a finished product! unfrigginbelievable!

i don't want the rear as low as the front, as is preferred stance for my car

..so don't know what springs to JUST drop an inch.. but still be higher than front.

as suspect?? it has "standard" in rear..

and so mounting "lowered"(lovells, like the front) will take it too far

"cutting" am trying to steer clear of

(ive... done enough of that already hahaha)

A full tank of fuel would be close to 50kgs, plus a spare wheel, jack and tools probably another 10kgs... that's gotta be good for at least an extra inch in the rear?

Plus you usually find suspension "settles" down a bit once you do a few miles, but the front is likely to settle more so that's only gonna make things worse.

I don't mind it so much myself anyway, old skool car, old skool look!

then a full tank of fuel, plus a spare wheel, jack and tools etc it is! cheap ..and slack, perfect!!

(fuel is almost on empty, and has NONE of that in boot)

love the look myself, and it's hopefully just hilarious/fun for people to see driving around (WITHOUT looking like a "joke".)

that's the aim, anyways!

am heckishly biased, but in person it's friggin grouse, a hoot

(though, barely done any miles, so front settling might force hand)

If it comes down 2" with full fuel tank etc so that not much tyre gap left in flare it will look heaps better.

Should be able to find some that resets springs...basically when it's at full weight everything settled measure how far want to drop it they'll heat it up & compress them..afterwards heat treat/temper the springs all done was maybe $80 last time had it done.

I actually like lowered L34 or A9X look with tiny GTS rims which most can't stand haha

hope not 2 inches! there goes the bulk of my outrageous look hahaha

resetting springs may still become necessary, i'll put in fuel etc asap and measure/post results

..and i'm in the opposing team in regards to skinny tiny original rims

heck... i'm complaining about my 14x8" rears! ;)

nothing to report, sadly.

as got to drive her to and from mechanics a few times (and got to take my dad with me for a cruise!)..

have been able to chill and put her on the backburner while spending money on daughter and a few things for myself.

still need... rear trans seal replaced, windscreen wipers which i don't have, underlay and sound proofing, an aerial and stereo... and probably ten other things i cant think of right now

here's some pics since have put a tyre and jack in boot, and half a tank of gas.

lousy to show difference made, but came down 2 cm so far

Cheers Daz. been a great experience.

Slight mega change of plans.

have always intended to fluke coming up with the money for 15 inch replica hotwires.

but, as they aren't quite right, i think. (wider/thicker "wire", and odd flat flared? section, mainly on the rear)

..am considering the 15" challengers.

Attached File  a performance challenger hotwire wheels_n.jpg   204.98K   11 downloads

bit cheaper too! $1400 a set, as opposed to $2000 for thew hotwires

Nothing wrong with the challengers.

Look a bit like some of the race rims from back in the day.

And to be honest, hotwires while they look great, are done by way too many people.

Dare to be a little different.
