Hey all, had an opportunity to get another 304 the other day. It's out of a VS Statesman, block is stamped Brennan Racing & it has some kind of aftermarket chip in it but other than that I dunno whats been done to it.

I've taken the ECU & complete wiring loom from that to the engine bay. My question is have I grabbed everything I needed out of the donor car? Did I need to take the diagnostic connector under the steering column as well? Did I need the rest of the loom that runs around the drivers side & back under the dash?

I'll be running the 304/auto setup in my Torana sedan project.

Any & all help much appreciated, & if you need any pic's of what I've got please let me know  :D  Cheers!

I would take everything you gave room for, an wiring looms or connectors

Charcoal canister if it has one

Maybe even the hand brake in case you want a floor one in the future

Only suitable if you have room to store stuff

Hmm.. never thought about the charcoal canister, but then again do I need it seeing as how I'm in NZ & it may not be an issue/requirement here? or is it necessary for everything to run properly..

Might go back on Saturday & get whatever else I can I think..

If you don't need it for ADR you're probably better off without the charcoal canister.

Yeah, only needed for legal requirements

I took the electronic dash out of the VZ I stripped and am hoping to fit it into the Torana. Even cut the drive tunnel out and saved it but probably won't end up using it

Doesn't hurt too have too many parts if you have the room

Grab the bracket that holds the factory fuse box under the bonnet, the fuse box and every plug that plugs into the engine harness from the vehicle, cut it out of the donor car with 2" of wires with it. Get the cruise control module too, the dash harness (mainly for the plugs). Also the airbox and the rubber/bolt assemblies that bolt them to the car.

You want the canister, the clip that holds it and the vapour lines or you'll get fuel smells in the car. Grab the whole fuel tank if it has the pump in it, easies way to fit a pump and swirl pot is to fit the whole tank if it'll fit. I can give you a diagram to make it operate your fuel gauge.

I assume you grabbed the spark module, MAP sensor etc as well?

Tailshaft too for the yoke?

Get the VIN off the car as well, easiest way to buy new bits from Holden is with the VIN off the donor car.

Almost forgeot, wiring from the gearbox to the body, grab it as you'll need the plugs and wires for the speed sensor.

Cheers, Tom, & thank you very much yel327 for the detailed rundown mate, I really appreciate it  :D

Here are some pic's of the engine & what I've pulled. I've got the airbox, radiator, ecu box, fan that aren't shown in the pic's. I'll head back there in the morning & pull out the fuse box/harness, cruise control, dash harness, driveshaft, petrol tank, VIN number etc.

I didn't see the canister sitting where I thought it'd be next to where the battery sits, so I'll see if there is one out of another car just in case I need it.

Can you tell me if I've grabbed the spark module & map sensor looking at my pic's? I'm guessing the MAP sensor is what my dad is holding up in the pic, not sure about the spark module - is that the ignition module?

Do I need the BCM under the dash?

Yes that is the MAP sensor. The ignition module is an alloy box with fins and a capacitor on the top from memory. You don't really need the BCM as you will have to get the memcal modified to remove the BCM input (and do your diff/tyre ppk change). Depending how you do it you may not need the fuse box (next to battery) but it can be a neat way to do the conversion - you can use spare fuses and relays for horn, headlights, engine fan etc.

I can't see the 'cruise cable bracket on the alternator bracket so it may not have had it.

I don't recall seeing that box in the engine bay but I'll take a closer look in the morning when I got back to get the rest of the stuff.

I'm keen to see if I can use the engine bay fuse box so I'll pull it out & as much of the wiring to it as possible (probably cut it at the firewall which will give me a couple of feet)

I removed the cruise control bracket & unbolted the unit off the wheel arch the other day with the intention of taking it to use, but ran out of time getting the loom pulled so I'll definitely get all that tomorrow. If I'm going to try & use the cruise control, what do you suggest I use for the controls? Should I grab the steering column stalk or is there something else out there I can mod to work?

Thanks again for your advise mate, means a lot  :D

Take a battery drill with you and drill the spot welds out on the bracket the cruise module mounts to. I normally use a bandsaw blade sharpened at the end and once I've drilled through the spots hammer the sharp end of the blade between the bracket and the inner guard and spots will pop.

The ignition module is in the photos below.

Also the fuse box bracket, fuses on the bracket, cruise bracket and charcoal canister on bracket. Cruise bracket is a weld in new example, original is spot welded in. You can see where I've drilled out the spots on the fuse box bracket.

Ah that's very handy, thanks for those pics. Where is the canister usually situated? I thought it was between the battery & radiator..

I think it hangs off the radiator in the location you stated. V6 should be the same, just different plastic lines/hoses to the throttle body.
