Bought my 1974 LH about 10 years ago. It was my daily for a few years before being parked and left for way too long.
The complete rebuild has begun
Plan is 355, Muncie, 9 inch, plus all the other necessary upgrades

Big Flares. Big Wheels Mav.
If you happen to get a paint match on those bonnet springs I would love a sample as I can't find anyone who has a code for it.

Yeah keep it flareless Mav. Hopefully I can help with anything you need as my LH is a 308 with Muncie and 9 inch also.

Is this Covert Mav? It looks like a colour that will change depending on the light it is in.

Yeah I like.

What's all this flare-hate? It was flared Toranas that made them famous and desirable, not granny-spec S models. I like a clean looking LH/LX too, but I want to understand what it is about flares people don't like? Look too tough? Look too try-hard? Or is it that if not done right, they just look crooked? Help me understand flare-haters!
Obviously I vote flares for this, Covert. It looks like you have about as much room to work as I do, the challenge makes us stronger.

+1 for flares here too, a Torrie just doesn't look finished without 'em... bolt the biggest set of boots you can find on it and lower it into the weeds (just don't use full lock)!
But none of this should really matter, who cares what I or anyone else thinks, if you're building a concourse car then keep everything factory original, but if you're not then do whatever tickles your fancy, it's your money, your time and most importantly your car.

No flare haters here! Just why butcher a nice clean car when they could have bought one already butchered :-)

It's not really such a big deal if you ask me, anything can be put back to standard given a MIG/TIG, the appropriate parts and enough time.
If you were to source a pair of front guards, rear doors (assuming a sedan) and the rear wheel arch sections cut from two standard rear quarters you could remove a set of flares and restore a car to flairless in a weekend (well... to primer stage anyway).
It would probably be less involved than fixing rust in a plenum chamber.
If this was a genuine SL/R I would no doubt lose some sleep over the decision, but an SL 3300 would only be worth big bucks in concourse condition and then only to the right buyer, so I say if you like the look of flares then just go ahead and fit 'em!
