Hey guys and gals, Just got my LX home. I'm attempting to put my wiring harness back in and I'm having trouble with the LX Ignition lights. The ignition lights are not lighting up and I'm stumped :banghead: . I have tried powering up the RED and PURPLE wires to the ignition switch, with a fusible link, which is direct from my battery as i have no motor in at the moment. I am getting power to the ignition switch, but still no lights on the LX dash. What I know about electrickery you could fit in the end of a condom.

Any tips and help would be greatly appreciated :) Cheers! :nopity:

As hutch has already mentioned. You have no path for current to flow. Once you have the engine installed and all sensors hooked up. Then come back here and let us know how you go.

Clamp your battery cable and ignition cable together with vice grips. (Just the wires that go on the big post on the starter motor) one of the small ones will be to activate the starter.
Worked for me when my engine was out and I wanted to check some electrical things.

a bit more info the you can put in the top of that condom,

each red light has to earth from the sender units in the engine, without the engine as said above you will have no circuit for the power to run.

is your cluster a ss/slr ? or one with a clock?

is your fuel gauge working?

to test the circuits try connect up the sensors and earth them to the body somewhere.

Very simple.

To test the 3 dash indicator lights, just temporarily connect the green (temp switch), dark blue (oil switch) & brown (alternator) wires to earth & switch on the ignition. All 3 should light up.

These 3 wires are in the engine harness & are the ones which connect directly to the switches on the engine.

Just note anyone with a SS/SLR dash DONT directly earth fuel, temp or oil wires or you will fry the gauges. With S/SL is fine, only warning lights, except fuel of course.

Yes, very good point, but the OP had already said it was an SL clock dash.

I know this, just thought I'd put it in everyones head, wouldnt want anyone seeing this who might not understand that you cant test gauges the same way and then blow up their cluster, thats all!

You can test thermal type gauges by earthing them out, just be ready to disconnect the earth or the power supply the moment the gauge needle reaches its maximum reading.

Best though to incorporate a 10 ohm resistor into the earth wire to protect the gauge.

yeah not good practice though, in a pinch a normal 2 watt test light works. Otherwise a gauge tester is best
