There are more microphones and cameras in places that you would not think of.
The only issue is if these are to be entered as evidence in a court of law.
Who views what outside of this has no bearing.
I questioned this once in my early days at work (as to how and when to inform people appropriately so as not to compromise any AV) and the general reply was that this is the society we live in now, we should be expected to be recorded in any "public place" at any time. That there is no one common law preventing anyone filming etc in public places.
In other words, the onus is on one's self to conduct yourself in an appropriate manor were you would not incriminate yourself if "caught out".

Example, all 7/11 (here in NSW at least) have audio/video at the counter.
FWIW it is still illegal to record persons in private residence without their permission without a warrant AFAIK.

Well, I have spoken to the guy today who does these cams, www.streetguardian.info and he informed me that you do not need to warn anyone about their voice being recorded when out and about. You were right bomber. He said his cams do come with a sticker that must be used in some states of the USA, but Australia does not require it. He also said for me to let the guys here know that if anyone is interested in his cams, disregard the web price as he does deals for real car people. Seems he is interested in all types of cars.

FWIW, the new Watatah suburban trains in Sydney have 70 cameras per 8 carriage train, 68 internal and external and one on either end looking out the front and back. They are linked into recording devices inside the train and can also be viewed from the drivers and guards cab on the train as well as the security control room in Sydney. High tech stuff.

Thanks for the feedback .Looking into a couple of units atm .Need 12/24v so will find that out as well .The truck being  a DG vehicle there are a few more people taking notice as to the outcome of it all .Now having a bike or car go around you  like what happened is one thing  but  a semi with DG (acid in this case) really needs to be sorted out . We all really need to be comfortable about thinking that there won't be a vehicle on the wrong side of the road just over the crest of a hill .

Cheers

Bernie, just out of interest, what speed zone were you in, and how fast/slow were you going when the truck went past you..??

Ian ,Was in 110 zone doing about 90 k's going up a hill . Have GPS so can go back if need be and check .Was 40 degrees outside 20 past 10 am .Guy followed me for about 2 k's max as there were cars in the chute when he stuck his nose out .Saw him swing out a couple of times which gave me the impression he was in a hurry . I had my 40 CH radio in my hand ready to let him know he could pass once over the hill and he was beside me as it went to double lines .I then slowed down to let him pass and he pulled in about 50 m from top of hill .Keeping in mind he is limited to 100 km/h himself .My bus will do 117 km if need be .

I travel quite a bit to the north and am very aware of holding people up and class my self as courteous on the road .My DG license expired last year and I have just sold my 560 hp Iveco Eurostar .

Cheers

Thx for that Bernie....  that was what I was wondering.....  because the truck should be limited to 100 KPH...   I drove a F250 with a 5th wheel motorhome on the back, and I was sitting on 115 kph across the Nullarbor, and I was passed by a couple of B-Doubles...  pretty safe there, but some very fast trucks over there..

cheers mate ...... Ian  :)

Ian, on that stretch of road there aren't many passing areas but it has got better over the last 10yrs or so .Lots of hills and corners for about 150 km .It can be frustrating .I have myself sat behind a road train doing 50 km/h in my work vehicle while it goes up a hill .Then been unable to pass it on the other side as they pick up speed as good as me going down the hill .It is what it is and you have to hang back until it is safe to pass .

Similar situation over here too. Some truck drivers are unbelievable! Worst ones are those that think they have more power than the next truck in line, and block the passing lane with multiple cars waiting to get past the first one! Totally ignorant.

We had a TV program that highlighted dashcam footage. Amazing what was captured... cars, bikes, trucks, morons in general... you name it, dashcam caught it!

Most drivers over here get paid by the KM out on the rd .Get held up at mine sites and then blow out their log times ,Other than that  some are just plain D H's .

Absolutely.

The issue existed before they introduced log books, I just feel the situation is worse since they have.

Most owner drivers I know have two log books just to get enough work done to pay the bills. Bit of tricky filling out, wala. There the ones that dont drive like frOckwits.
