I agree, Haydens efforts are phenominal. Definitely a long way away from just slotting one in though, and it brings it back to a price differential, For the money to get a stock V6 into a car, assuming the basics like the owner cant wire or fabricate etc, i cant see it going faster or being more reliable than a red six with the same coin thrown at it.

Probably right, but as I said in a prior post it'd run in 91 ULP or E10, get 30MPG and would allow you to easily run air and steer if you wanted, and you get an overdrive box for free with it. Whereas a stock 173 in an LJ is lucky to get 23MPG, and putting A/C and steer on a red 6 will upset it a bit if you have increased its performance to match a stock V6. Plus to get one to go you wouldn't be able to use cheaper fuel. Then you'd be forking out probably the cost of the whole V6 conversion kit simply to get a reliable overdrive box behind a red 6, assuming that is what you desired. If you simply wanted a warm red 6 with a trimatic or 3spd then you can't beat that for value!

a mate is doing the v6 supercharge thing now in a ek the work and money he has spent not it its not for me. and no way i would put a/c and steer on a fb. Thats what got me thinking about the supercharger thing in the first place. plus the engine is not built yet and he has supercharger in the shop. talking to guy yesterday and he said that they have to much heat in them and be better of just sticking with the setup that i was going with. This brain of mine is going to be the end of me

My original 173 got 23mpg. A few go faster parts made 28mpg. The stove hot 179 that replaced the 173 went back to 23mpg. Not sure on what the 206 does... but not too different round town.
Our mostly standard 3.8 auto VN Calais does 38mpg, and I've just ordered an 'economy' chip for it.
Torquey, economical V6 in a light early Holden... mmmmmmmm!!!!

I have been running a m90 on a red 6 for about 5 years, i have regreased the rear bearings a few times, the grease eaton secified was about $100 but i used a tube of food grease from inox i got at jaycar for about $7 that seemed to have simular specs, also i havent noticed any delamination on the rotors after 5 years of running petrol through the blower. I made a intake that wraps around to a SU carb facing forward using the VS-VT m90, its on a 4bbl manifold, i made a adaptor out of 16mm aluminium and there is a marine wedge spacer between the manifold and adaptor, after a bit of head scratching the idler puller was simple to make and uses a chrome KC commodore pulley from supercheap. I used a modular pulley so i can easily increase boost. on the highway the eaton stays cool and the intake pipe actually frosts up, most of the time cruising around the A/F will bypass the trotors and it will be as economical as a mild six with a small carb, when you put the boot in the power comes on, I will admit ii spent a bit on the engine and it cost more than a L67 conversion but i did it becuase a like old inline six holden engines. as for the power ive never dynoed it and the single 2" SU is too small but it has a 2.78 diff and can get the wheels spinning from 50 kph with a trimatic.

Whats the economy like? Or is that a stupid question? I figure if it's driven sensibly it shouldn't be too bad. Like everything else, more go means more pay.
