Sydney Machina Social Club is a brand new, modern motoring social club, dedicated to the motoring enthusiast community. It is where proud owners will be able to unite while having a chat, meet new and old friends, share a coffee & a nice brekki in a wonderful location.

You can also keep up to date through our Facebook page:

https://www.facebook...chinaSocialClub

I decided to attend this morning, it was a great event and well organised. I was greeted upon entry by a marshall that gave me an entry gift (showbag with some car magazines) and while parking another marshall came along to guide me reversing. A raffle was also held

Here's some photos of the day.

I had actually won first prize again but decided to be a good sport and told them to do a redraw.

The red Thunderbird took out the people's choice award, he scored car detailing from one of the sponsors.

Ya gotta be in it to win it.

-------- URGENT NOTICE ----------------
---- Sundays Machines & Macchiatos is postponed---------

On behalf of all of us here on the Sydney Machina Social Club - Machines & Macchiatos team, we would like to offer our most sincere apologies. It is with great regret, due to circumstances beyond our control, that this Sundays Machines & Macchiatos will be postponed.

Previously we had permission from Manly council to run our event at Clontarf, but due to new pressures from the Local police, Council has now made it clear if we do not pay the $750 MONTHLY!!! council fees & do the endless amounts of red tape, we can not hold our event at Clontarf.

So we will not be running our Machines & Macchiatos event at Clontarf any more.

BUT! the good news is…
Machines & Macchiatos will continue to run but in a new location. We have found a great new location & we are in the process of finalising the details of the new venue & we will be making an announcement in the next day or 2 with all the details of the location & the date change. What we can say now is, it's a water front location, the parking is free with 250+ spaces, the cafe is great, serving up excellent coffee & food.

So once again we offer our humble apologies for any inconvenience, but this has all just happened in the last few days. We look forward to seeing you in September at our new location. Stay tuned more details to come

If you have any questions please feel free to call me:
Sam 0438 060 821

https://www.facebook...ialClub?fref=nf

Apparently, it was the police that made the council enforce the rules.. council was happy but not the cops

G'day Stephen,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but why do you need to go through all the crap of obtaining council and police permission at all?

If all the cars are registered and you're not charging admission, isn't it just a case of getting everybody together in a public car park somewhere?

Am I missing something?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but why do you need to go through all the crap of obtaining council and police permission at all?

I'm not associated with the event but my guess it's to do with insurance. The event can go on but they have to pay $750 monthly to the council; after all the forms are filled in, approved and processed.

Last decade many music events suffered the same fate, insurance costs (if you could get it approved) made it too expensive to hold some events; Metal for the Brain was Australia's premier annual metal event with proceeds going to charity until this:

It is with much regret that we must inform you that Metal For The Brain has become a victim of the current Public Liability crisis.

We have been attempting to obtain Public Liability Insurance since March this year. All insurance brokers we contacted told us that no insurance companies would even look to quote our show until eight weeks out from the gig. During the past six weeks we have exhausted all avenues to try and get cover for our show. It seems that "Metal" is quite a dirty word in the insurance game and no underwriters were willing to back our small festival. A benefit concert that has been running successfully without incident or claim since 1990.

We are extremely sorry to all metal fans that Metal For The Brain will not happen in 2002. But at the end of the day we really had no alternative but to cancel the show.

Each car was paying $8 for parking; last month there were 100 cars, plus visitors; I'm sure the council wasn't complaining.

If I were the coffee shop at Clontarf I would be suing the council for taking away thousands of customers.

What a joke.

Unless there has been trouble I don't get it.
