Nope, every little counts. Old cafe racers trick. Ha, you would like my wiper arms in the plenum chamber, window regulators and bumper mounts just to name a few bits and pieces that loose weight.

Finished off the external oil pick up. Its now 20mm at the inlet end of the tube and 15mm at the outlet just outside the sump, compared with the stock pipe which is a pissy 10mm. Going to experiment with cooling fins on the bottom of the sump. They will be around 40mm deep and cover the entire flat area where the pick up is and then there will be an air intake in my front spoiler to blow cool air through the sump fins. Starting to play around with the windage tray and thinking about grinding a sort of basin in the lifter gallery to channel more oil back down to the sump. More bloody work.

Why not just have an oil cooler? Or a bigger one if you have one already, no modern engines fin the sump anymore.

If I do have oil temp problems, I'll use a cooler. I've had a look at those water cooled TRW oil coolers and maybe use an electric booster water pump (Davies Craig) so I can turn if off or on as my Torana is mainly a street car and don't really need a cooler for the street. I can turn the cooler on for any track work if needed. The sump fins are a bit of an experiment that does not cost a stack of money.

Finished the sump, except cleaning up the inside. Spent $350 on powder coating the crossmember Aztec silver, well worth the money. I decided to do something different to having every thing black underneath.

Saved up enough for these McDonald bros arms. Typically they don't exactly fit, but that's part of the fun. Need to weld on a bracket for the LCs bump stops, stuff around with the bottom arms so that the spring has a seat and grind the top arms so that they can bolt on to the XU1 speck crossmember. They would have bolted straight onto the standard holes. I think that I wont need those horrible shims anymore to adjust camber, but the adjustment is sort of partial. Will have to somehow compress the springs and take off the top pivots doovies to adjust and than bolt them back on and measure the camber till its right, don't think the wheel alignment bloke will like my car.  

To get any gain out of the metal diet, my chassis kit needed to lose a bit of weight and fit crush tubes to the bolts that pass through the frame sections.

HA, some are holes and some are not holes, sort of half holes, I suppose they could be called dimples. I think many small holes are not as risky as big holes. Most of them will be sealed with those plastic plugs.

Finished of my new tubular arms. Had to strip off the black paint that they came with not very durable. used POR 15. Time to replace all of the 48 year old bolts that hold the front end together.

Time for some new pics. Been doing lots of fixing every thing that used to piss me off, things not fitting properly and other bits that can be a lot better. Simply getting out of control again. A couple of little differences up the front, flares needed lots of rework, still more to do with them. Painting the under neath again, no more outdated colorflec. The engine is just a dummy to go back in, so I can make sure every thing fits before putting the real one back together again.

Strange how the dreaded Covid 19 has been a gain for my Torana. I have been able to get my fee dwindled tiny super. I figured that I would likely get more if I invested in my Torana than a fee infested super fund that I cannot contribute to. So I started with this PPG straight cut M-21, with L34 ratios. It was in a race car, strange as it is a synchro and not a dog box. I think my 350 to maybe 400 HP 186 wont bust it. I've given it a good clean up and new gaskets and seals. I had brought this alloy crossmember a couple of years ago and found that it needed a massive spacer to fit up to an Aussie 4 speed so I banished it to the back of the shed in disgrace. Anyway I had one of those very rare moments where my brain things out of the box and simply inverted it so I only needed a spacer of 30mm for the gearbox mount.
