Hey All,

I have a set of 18x8 inch rims on my LX with 245 width tyres.

I would like them wider.

Would anyone know if a 265 width tyre fit on a 8 inch?

Yeah sure can, your limit will be the sidewall profile.

A mate of mine had 265/35R18 on 8 inch wide rims but was a squeeze (Commodore ute).

There are too many unknowns mate, I wouldn't have a clue.

Maybe have a look at what clearances you have now, figure out the difference in width and height and go from there.

Don't forget there will be variations between manufacturers.

Yea I don't think it's ideal.
I currently have 245 on my 8inch but I would like to go wider.
I will speak to my tyre guy and see what we can do.

You can just look up what the tire manufacture says is the recommended width of course, which for a 265/35-18 for a few brands I looked up off hand are a 9" - 10.5" wide wheel.

Obviously people run tires on wheel sizes way out of spec, but it is of course not ideal and I would say best to stick with what they were designed for probably for the average sort of setup.

I spoke to Bridgestone today.

They said the tyre will definitely fit on but it will bulge out.

The tyre will look allot bigger then the rim

Has anyone got any pics of an 8inch rim with 265?

That’s great news mate, how about safety wise? Why do they recommend these tyres on a 10inch rim?

Are there any vibrations at high speeds?

Maybe its just me but the top picture in Mint Julip's post above definately shows the tyres do bulge out from the rim face, the rim lip is obscured for over half its circumference.

Heres a pic of 265's on 10" rim..Tfest_2009_2.jpg

Im with ^

PIcks of the 265 on the 14 are bulged like balloons. Rims need to be an inch wider atleast.  Would look atrocious with less sidewall.

heres a 245x60x15 on an 8 1/2" convo pro as you can see it pulls/rolls the sidewall in more

I would be sticking to 245's on an 8 inch rim. I just put 245's on my 8.5 inch rims and they are a very good fit for the rim size. 265's will have too much stress on the side walls when cornering I reckon.  Not legal either.  All my references for 265 wide tyres are either on 9 or 9.5 inch rims at the smallest.

After looking at those pictures i will stick with the 245 on the 8 inch rim.

Remember too of course a higher profile 15" or 14" tire is going to look and bulge out different than a 35 series 18" tire even on similar width rims. (from the stiffer/shorter sidewall)
