Hi Ken

There are two fonts used. The most obvious differences are in the "2"  "4" and "6". I have 11 photos of XU-1 dizzys divided pretty evenly between the 2 fonts.

Cheers

Yeah Baz but the top one doesn't look anywhere near the other two on several levels....might be my eyes...

It seems to be par for the course. There are a few minor differences among my photos. Notice also that one of your photos has the vertical code on the right hand side of the numbers group. Usually this is on the left hand side of the group. Sometimes the "BOSCH Made in Australia" is on the other side of the body not above the numbers.

Why is it dodgy ? Should be easy enough to pick a ground down housing...?

And it wouldn't be the first digit ever stamped crooked by GMH or its suppliers. If the GMH Part Number is dodgy all the other ones would have to be also.

Have you ever seen the stamped numbers on the body ID plate on most FX/FJs ?

They look like they were done at the local kindergarten.

Looking at that it is probably ok.

Stamping on a curved surface wouldnt be easy or exact.

Would guess there were 2 or 3 stamp blocks to do the job.

The depth of the stamp is progressive.

The progressive depth shows up on one of the others, but not quite so deep.

That's probably because of the corrosion pitting in the alloy.

Putting aside the fonts there's only one (pictured) that is suited to xu1 anyway going by the date codes.

I've also seen scorcher dissys with the same part number but dated a lot later to the xu1 era.

Dane so are you saying XU1 dizzy's outside the XU1 manufacture dates are "replacement" XU1 distrubitors? Makes sense. Similar to some of the XU1 heads being spares etc...

Exactly what Dane is saying.

Sometime during the 1980's the original LJ XU1 distributor part number 2824083 was superseded to a VS prefixed part number.

Hi

Can some body explain how to interpret the date codes? I've never been able to work them out on Bosch distributors.

Cheers

Bazza, read from left to right the 1st number is the year, 2nd & 3rd numbers are week of the year.

639 = 39th week of 1976 for one of the pictured XU1 distributors.

Correction 630 not 639.

30th week of 1976

Hi

That's what I always thought but numbers like 822 825 and 929 threw me. I would have thought that they would be selling generic Bosch with no GMH part number by then.

Cheers
