That's not a completed bucket pictured, it's from last year. They look better completed. The metal I use has a very thin layer of zinc, to help prevent rust again.

I trim the top edge for sedan/hatch.

Zincanneal?
What grade is the steel?

Yes Bart, I think that's what the metal shop called it. I think it;s .8mm. The guys in the shop said it was the same as what some panel fabricators use. It welds fine with a mig. I wouldn't see a problem fabricating at 0.95mm or whatever the next size up is.

Heath, as you'll guess I'm not big on photos plus I haven't yet fitted one, and I haven't done much on it recently. But I had troubles with the lower corner curvature (bottom lower outer corner). I have been working OS recently, and thinking about how I can solve my puzzle. I now have an idea on how to tackle it and I will continue the first opportunity I can.

Okay, using the 1mm sheet (0.9) now. These ones are for a hatch.

Nice job Greg! Someone asked me about doing an outer patch section for a UC conversion just the other day. I will have to have a go myself when I get a bit of free time, I hope mine look as neat.

Hi Slippo, yes I think I can do some more, but my lead time is a bit slow.

Thanks Grant. As with most things, they look quite simple, but take quite a ton of time to develop and make.

When I made them from the thinner 0.8 mm metal, I got feedback that grafting onto the rear quarter resulted in shrinkage at the weld, so I'm hoping the thinker metal is better.

Yeah, time is what we all want most, but use the worst. Wow, I kinda like that sayin'.

Hi everyone,

If anyone is interested in buying tail light buckets I am still making them, and have sold nearly 40 of them so far. I have set the price at $150 each or $300 a pair and $20 postage anywhere in Australia. For people in or around the Newcastle area they are available through Torana RPA so give Mick a call if you are interested in seeing them before you buy. So far all of the feedback to me about them has been positive and I am happy that people are satisfied with my products and hope that they have helped people keep more toranas on the road. Over the next few days I will put up some photos of other parts that I will make available soon.

Thanks,  Grant 0478 732274

Hi Grant,

I'm hoping you'll get around to making those hatchback hinge frame supports you spoke about. I certainly would be a customer as mine seem to be less supportive than they should, and I know you do fine work.

Cheers

Hi Greg,

Just the other day I cut the hinge support beam out of an old hatchback that I have sitting here and it was so bad it fell apart as I was cutting it out. There wasn't enough left to make a paper pattern from it. I will have to cut another one out of another hatchback that I have that isn't quite as rusty as see what it looks like.

Cheers, Grant

Hi Gary, initially when I started to make the tail light buckets I suddenly realised that I will have to put a price on them. I just pulled the figure of $120 out of my head, but when I went to Torana RPA and Kingswood Country we all agreed to set the Price at $150 each. When I sit back and work out the time it takes me to make one I should be charging $200 each!

I'm also making hatchback C-pillar sections, A-pillar end cap sections, and will be making a batch of the lower radiator support centre sections because I don't like the Rares version. Also looking at doing more items soon. If you are interested in anything I make send me a message and I will look after you on prices.

Cheers, Grant

Hi Chris, no haven't been able to sort out all of the issues with it. Another forum member Bart seems to be closer to a finished product but he has hit some problems with his too, mainly in the centre section where the recess is for the number plate. I may have to look for a new way to solve the issues I have in this are as well.

How soon do you need the tail light sections? I have a couple at various stages for someone else on here but not sure if he still wants them??? Ill make a few more but taking some time as I'm R&ding other techniques.
Did you want the top where the boot lid shuts or mainly the face???
PM me if you like.
I'm looking at different ways of making this stuff.
The number plate recess can be done its a matter of how and what cost.

Attached File  Capture.JPG   49.27K   15 downloadsJust a bit of an update, my UC to LX conversion rear buckets and panels have been updated a little. The joint to the rear panel has been extended so the joint can be under the numberplate section. I have sold a few sets already, but no feedback except that they look great. Here are the old and new versions:   Top is a Hatch version, bottom is a sedan.
