Police Report

POLICE spent the afternoon yesterday trying to determine how a car became lodged on top of two graves in the monumental cemetery in Young.

According to Sergeant Paul Colefax of Young Police Station the police were called to the cemetery at around 12.45pm to discover the gold HQ Premier Sedan sitting atop a double plot in the Methodist portion of the cemetery.

Sergeant Colefax said it appeared the sedan was being towed up Hennessy Street and when it reached the Olympic Highway, broke free of its restraining strap, rolled back down Hennessy Street, entered the cemetery, clipped two gravesites and became lodged on two others, causing damage to a fifth.

He said he was unable to estimate the damage bill but that some of the graves dated back to the 1890s.

Sergeant Colefax said nobody was injured as a result of the incident, and alcohol and speed were ruled out as factors contributing to the accident.

The 23-year-old driver, a Young man, was issued a penalty notice for having an unsecured load.

A crane was used to remove the car.

I told ya it was a grave situation

Barry

The 23 year old driver is a Young man, or is he a young man?

Very important for a young man to ensure his load is properly secured don't you think? :spit:

Nice Barry!
For a second there I thought someone was serious about taking their car to the grave.
I guess you can never be too sure...

I'm thinking there was a Holden rave party the night before and that first one is just the drunk guy you always find asleep in the garden the next morning...

I have nothing against zombies engaging in off street drag racing.

I used to own that car !

I sold it a few years back to a guy from Young and I believe it changed hands again after that.

Last I saw, it had a blown BBC and was doing the burnout circuit.

Bit of a pity really, the car was quite rare, a factory 253 4 speed Premier, not many of them left ! The reason I sold it was I thought it was too good to continue racing (I was running low 11's in it at the time).
