Can you tell me whether the LJ brake distribution block in the engine bay is the same as fitted to the HQ model. They look the same.

Not trying to nit pick either but LJ's don't have a proportioning valve. It's simply a junction block incorporating a brake fail switch.

Now I am confused. Previous posts have stated that it is purely a distribution block and that the brake proportioning between front discs and rear drums is done within the master cylinder. I thought that the distribution block was added due to a requirement of having a brake failure warning light on the dash, hence the switch on the block. Whatever its purpose, could the HQ one have metric threads instead of imperial as the LJ one?

LJ and HQ are the same
No proportioning is done in the master cylinder
HQ has a valve along the rear line and 7/8 wheel cylinders
LJ has no extra valve and 9/16 wheel cylinders
