So the problem is .... I have rang 7 mechanics now and there are all saying that can't do a quote over the phone and that it will be atleast 2 thousand!!!!?
I'm in the WOLLONGONG region and was wondering dose anyone know any cheap guys who would do it for around 800? Thanks
Oh and also the gearbox is a 4 speed munchie and I have already bought a conversion to the blue 202 and taken a red 202 sump and put it in blue 202, ready to go in.

That would depend on what parts you have and how much you can do yourself.

I suspect it is $500 to do the job and $1,500 to cover all the little Head Ache things that will crop up as they go.
Like;
1/ You will need a different radiator as the top & bottom hose connections are on the opposite side for a 6.
2/ Spigot bush may be different for Muncie so it must be replaced. (Although you say you have the conversion stuff)
3/ Clutch plate may be different for Muncie. (Although you say you have the conversion stuff)
4/ Clutch Mechanism (Rat trap) and cable or is it hydraulic where the slave is custom?
5/ Who's doing the Exhaust?
6/ Throttle cable & bracket.
7/ Heater hoses
8/ Fasteners & bolts all there.
9/ engine instrumentation wiring loom is different.
10/ Alternator and battery cables are probably different.
Without that stuff sorted up from, you could imagine the car sitting for longer in the workshop.
For the $800 you have and if you have the room, buy/rent the engine crane and have a go.
Sorry my response doesn't cover your original query.

+2, have a go yourself, only one way to learn. Think of it as a forward investment, learn how to take 308 out and put six in = take six out and put 308 back in when licence permits.

If you and a mate can not have the V8 and trans. out in less than half a day i would be surprised, that is the easy bit.
It is the "making sure" that the new heart and trans all fits up proper before it goes in,give it a go,it is only "nuts n bolts" after all.
and just ask
plenty around here that have done it before, probably in weekend with everything needed ,it is all the little bits that takes the time.
don't be surprised if something has been "overlooked" in the plan....that is life

Why don,t you just disconnect 2 spark plug leads !

Have a think about how much time & money you may spend & weigh it up against buying a shit box to drive around in until your off your P''s...then you can leave the Torry as is.

Hahahahaha you wish

You wish????
You think your old 308 is worth $800?
My offer was generous plus I have a tonne of bits here to make your 202 work in your UC.
Never mind.

Take the $800 and go buy a Hyundai Excel till you're off your P's
Leave the Torana alone

Yeah took me a few hours to pull my first motor out on my own, so won't be too hard if you get someone to help.
Hard part will be getting it working again.
And I do agree with the others, just get a cheap sh!tbox and be done with it.
Then any extra coin you earn in the meantime can go into making the Torrie even nicer for when you're off your P's.

I'd like ten bucks for every time that's been suggested in this particular case (I'd probably have enough to buy his 308)!

That's the smartest thing that's been sais so far.
Apart from taking off two spark plug leads.

I agree with everyone saying do it yourself. Even if you have to buy enough tools and an engine crane, it would still be less than paying someone else to do it.
Buy a workshop manual, they have step by step instructions for just about everything you need to do on your car.

800 will buy you a pretty decent car with rego in the gong.
Have been some good ones for around 4-500 lately.
Buy another car and use the money you saved to do a little on the Torrie.
Its a win win situation that way.

HEeeeeyyyy, that UC in your avatar looks like my old (the one I bought my dad) UC, the guy who bought it off us was putting a V8 in it.
I agree with the rest, buy a $800 shitbox you can learn to drive in and park anywhere.

+1
Better to write off a POS Hyundai or similar while on your P's than an irreplaceable Torana, even if it is a UC.
