I recently decided to buy a bottle from Supergas through Gasweld.

More initial outlay but no more rent.

Less than 2 years rent pays for the bottle.

Just pay for refills.

But that's in Sydney...dunno who does it over there.

I was looking at buying a bottle too but it's exchange-only around here and I couldn't bring myself to pay for a brand new tank then donate it to BOC.

Hey Jonesy,

anyone out there getting a better deal here in WA ?

cheers jonesy

We can get this deal off of Gumtree here in WA:-

$_20.JPG

http://www.gumtree.c...nder/1067581203

am considering it, I did try to get Gene to pay for one,

but he said it was too expensive.  :D

Edit:-

'C' size may be the go then for small jobs,

at $230 own and full with $85 refills:-

$_20.JPG

http://www.gumtree.c...nder/1075792152

But 'D' size ( 1.7 m/3 ) is better value having 3 times more Argon than the 'C' size ( 0.6 m/3 ), at only $60 more per refill.

free gas at work :P boc across the road, so we get all the bottles that are half full or don't pass inspection, and the forklift gets the bottles that the gauges don't work :P

That's got to be the deal of the century Danny, Like button for you.

All we have here is BOC, and they dont do refills, so the only benefit of owning your own bottle would be trying to refill it from a new bottle, then you only get a half charge...Still would be cheaper probably.....

frOcking shits me the bottle rental, I have Argosheild, Argon, Oxy and Accet, About $80 a month. Bullshit.

Going to LPG/oxy once my accet bottle is empty, mark my words.

Cheers.

I just bought a small 'D' size cylinder from Total Tools in Melbourne, pure Argon for the TIG. They are just resellers for 'Power10gases' but they have lots of shops in Melbourne which makes them convenient. I figured Total Tools aren't going anywhere in a hurry - hope I'm not wrong. $340 and it'll pay itself off within 2 yrs.

If they stop offering to refill it down the track, I'm not going to be pleased.

just about to buy my first MIG, very limited beginner type use,  local Gasweld offers -

C size

$215  outright $49 refill

D size

$389 outright   $99 refill

Reckon that sounds like the go?? happy for any advice..

p.s. reckon the rental companies must have been making a killing for a   l  o  n   g    time!!..but if that's all that available, then no option I guess

yeah Bomber...these local guys here will swap your old empty E size for a new full one @ $159. Thus no issues with ever having an old bottle that is out of date.

Still not cheap..but I guess that's the way it is.

So I should be looking around for a bottle that's out of date, sling the guy twenty bucks for it and take it in for exchange?

I used to have a BOC account when i was contracting.

It was a long time ago, but i think i was paying over $200 bottle rental & around $219 for a refill on my 'G' cylinder.

It always annoyed me that my employer was paying $21 for a 'G' refill.

Picked mine up today from Total Tools. I just went with the 'D' size - the really small one. I'm not using it all day every day (although for the next few months it will be a fair bit lol) so it should do the trick.

Yeah NA-PWR, looks the same, a mate who deals with wholesale welding stuff put me on to him, the initial cost will get paid off in prob 2 years not paying rent, I have another bottle with BOC, that will get changed to Tim when it runs out.
It's expensive enough with what we do so need to save money somewhere

Old thread but thought it worth adding,
Went to refill my E size argoshield at BOC which costs $19 per month to rent plus gas and they had a new deal on D size for $100 per year with 1 free refill

Much better value for part time users like me
