Just got quoted 4k for 2x 18x8.5 & 2x 18x11" FR's from Tempe Tyres.

I am using this as the baseline figure to go by when looking at buying a new set of 18's, if I had to - FR Simmons are a very nice looking wheel on flared hatchbacks, but I would prefer to have something a little bit different if possible.

I have looked into USA made stuff, but with the Aussie Dollar so low atm, the pricing is out of this world.

Any other options out there, around that ball-park dollar figure...............

thanks.

Nothing wrong with showwheels.
I've got them on my unflared taxi and the prices are competitive and they have heaps of styles.

The FRs are awesome though :)

Are you running Chev pattern or still Torana ?  Chev really opens you up of course to a lot of different styles, especially from here. (not everything is big bucks)  might even look into second hand depending on what you are chasing ?

If you have Torana stud pattern that of course limits you a bit more.  There is always inserting or redrilling the wheels depending on what they are to start with as well.

And the AU dollar isn't all that really... of course I remember when it was at 49 cents too, ha ha.

Could consider trying one of the tens of amazing wheel companies from Japan, also?

Most are going to want 4.5" PCD for standard items. Have you already chosen a stud pattern? With your budget in many cases I'm sure they'd consider customising.

Don't get caught up in all the hype with billet wheels, there's nothing wrong with a good set of machined cast wheels (and they're a quarter of the price). They can also be much nicer styles since there is so much waste and cost with billet that the centres tend to be very flat to minimise material use, which just results in a lack of shape.

For that money you should be able to get an awesome set of 3 piece wheels. Preferably ones not made in china.I Think FR's are one of the best looking large rims for toranas. But sadly they have been done to death.

Yes, best looking large rims for a Torana because no-one's ever tried anything else.

Are they 8's on the back Daz and if so, what size tyres? I am one of the boring FR17 Simmons boys.  Always wanted a set so couldn't resist :-).

Yes mate.
8's on the back with 235's, 7's with 205s on the front.

Don't worry, I have a constant horn for the FRs but I love my showwheels too :)

Jeff I have had the brake conversion done and am now running 5 x 114.3 stud pattern :) @nd hand would be a dream - but I can't see me fluking the exact right offset for the 11" rears.

Daz, it's been a while since I have had a look at Show Wheels range - I'll have a look, thanks.

Heath, wheel companies from Japan is a solid lead - thanks for the thought. Especially considering my stud pattern choice.

wat179..............your completely MAD!!! btw, I have seen a red, flared hatchback(a very long time ago - around 20 years ago) with 12 slotters on it. And to this very day, I still can't get the vision out of my head fast enough for the queazy feeling to go away.

Dave, it's my experience that when playing with large wheels and tyres on flared Torana's.....the lighter the wheel the better :)

As far as racing her goes...........will be 95% street car, with the distinct possibility of being talked into a couple of track days here and there.

Interesting that no one has mentioned MC Racing wheels - the Simmons copies. Have anyone had any feedback or experiences with these wheels? They are around half the price of Simmons from a quick look around & they visually appear to be dead on the same.

My 18" x 10.5" rears are around 19 pounds...not tooooooo bad I reckon.

And as for getting offset right, a 2 piece wheel can be made exactly to what you what, so no problem there at least.

He was talking about getting the correct offset in second hand wheels. I say good luck getting ANY second hand 18 x 11's.

Second hand is no huge deal either...just change the offset to what you want.  You can even just cut the centers out and weld them into new outers if you got a good deal on narrower wheels for example..

I have a set of 3 piece 18" work wheels from Japan on order. 3 month wait but were $1200 cheaper than simmons. You can order any offset and PCD up to 120, Just hope they look good 😮
The Australian distributor was good to deal with also

In a wheels thread someone on here had 17-18 inch rims that passed really well for gts rims...those would be cool though hard to beat well loved simmons

Mate if you have 5x114.3 then you are spot on. You'll find heaps of wheels, new and used, fat, whatever. Yahoo Japan auctions and use a broker (Jesse Streeter is quite good), and ImportMonster have a good Australian store, they also offer bidding on auctions etc.

Check this out if you think that the only wheels in the world are Show Wheels, Centreline and Simmons.
