I have 6 original LC grille badge emblems they all have a silver border around the black lion, i ordered a repo emblem from rares and it has a red shield border around the lion. Now at first i though rares had cocked up and made them like LJ and other models, but then i looked at an unmolested all original lc gtr from a deceased estate and it had a red border too. This is the first time ive actually noticed this, is this a gtr vs s and sl thing or a adelaide vs brisbane etc thing.

No, just the red on the 6 emblem inserts you have has faded away into oblivion.

Interesting. Don't know the answer. Here's an original I have. Note the part number.

i will check the numbers but they definitely have never had red. some are in great condition others faded and yet not one of the six has any signs of red. I went through all my archive of pics and i got pictures of both types on different vehicles. Most of the original and period shots of GTR's show red shields, so im leaning towards it being a gtr vs standard thing.

i cant find a clear enough period or holden promotional shot of an s or sl to confirm. Just strange as one emblem is in really good condition not faded anywhere and yet absolutely no signs of red, mayb it has faded away ???

They are the 4 and 6 cylinder versions of the chrome housing. See post #3 above.

The emblem is the chromed diecast alloy part. The insert is the red, blue and black coloured lion logo plastic piece that mounts into the chrome emblem.

In a nutshell all LC Torana grille emblem inserts contain blue, black and red colours. The red is notorious for fading away completely and leaving the silver backing colour to show through.
