Hi All,

Can someone with an XU1 fuel tank tell / show me how the sender wire is connected to the tank. It's like this pin spike on my repro sender and my LC has a female blade plug. I'm guessing it's either a wire soldered to an R clip or a very small female bullet connector

Thanks!

LC tank units have a male spade and LJ tank units have the male pin connector.

Don't solder anything to the the tank unit pin, you may melt the plastic insulator and rubber seal resulting in fuel leakage from the tank unit and voiding your new sender units warranty.

Yeah I dont think I will be soldering the wire to the tank. I just need to know what the connector to use to connect the sender wire to the pin.

The pin connection is the same as that used for all LJ/LH/LX/UC/HQ/HJ/HX/HZ etc. fuel senders.

I doubt very much that you could buy a new one these days, but with such a model choice, just get a 2nd hand one from a wreck & make a short adaptor using a male spade crimp terminal.

The connector is similar to what I see at work on older Caterpillar alternator r terminals. I don't think the little black rubber connector that is a push fit onto the pin is available as a spare part, it's part of a bigger harness.
But I have sourced them for a truck PTO switch, they come on a length or wire maybe 200 mm long with the rubber boot and little spring connector moulded onto the wire.
I will report back tomorrow with part number and supplier, I might even still have 1 new one at work that I can test fit on a sender I have at home.

Dunno how to post link to ebay, but search for Chelsea PTO sending unit with wire 329202x.
It's am American add but u can see the pin on the switch and the black rubber boot on the wire, to connect it u push the rubber boot over the pin, inside the boot is a little clip/ connector that grabs onto the pin. I have been able to source just the wire as a spare part for a Chelsea PTO in Australia.
Maybe they are same size as fuel tank sender connector and you can splice one of these new ones onto you sender wire.

That looks like a way better option than the little alligator clip that I am currently using.

I don't have any of the PTO connectors in stock at work, so can't be sure if they fit, but FWIW its a Parker Chelsea part no. 379640 booted connector $18.00 and the supplier was Nova Cranes.
