Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any info or used silicon hoses (the ones the turbo guys use) on their exhaust systems.

I was thinking I could cheaply and easily join up a system that would get me by until I had enough saved to get a stainless system made (I have most of the components already).

Worried that the hose will become blobs of goo or charred mess or whatever it turns into when it overheats.

The Turbosmart page says their hose is rated to 180c and I have seen google images where the connection off the turbo intake is silicon.

Would it be ok to go silicon off the bottom of my headers (355 EFI) into the cat? Then subsequently all joins after that?

Would I need more hangers because it would be more flexible?

Any tips or ideas much appreciated.

Nicko

you are aware some exhaust gases go as high as 600 degrees aren't you? Although turbo charged, I regularly see 500 degrees with my car.

Silicon intercooler will not work with exhaust pipes

There are other higher temp rated exhaust hose used on marine engines but I don't think they would cope with 500c that a cat would run at

You can buy flexible metal exhaust pipe joins but if it is just from the end of the headers to the cat cost to get a pipe made would be cheaper than a hose that would cope with that temp

THe marine stuff is designed to work with water injected before them, It dies real quick if the water stops for whatever reason (trust me)

Short answer to the original question, no.

Cheers.
