nope.. about 3mm..

enough for the aircon foam that goes between the core and the top of the box.. it sits on the core frame on the bottom. I put aircon foam under there as well.. wont hurt. The rubber bit on the tubes, and the foam at the end hold it it place bewteen the 2 halves.. not real good idea, but it works.

As a  side note l was going to use a pulse width generater to control the fan speed instead of a resister.

Not really sure about the code number on the black part of the tag (probably the manufacture code for LC Torana heater core). The S stands for Sydney and the production date code should be on stamped into the silver window.

I found 2 differnt types of cores.. The skiny one came out of an LJ box and tha fat one came out of an LC.

Big differnce..

Gold sticker reads "L3 S" asumme 12/73???

and it has some numbers stamped on the big tank with out pipes,, reads  "registered core design #51473" and on the other side is a stamp in lead "#3".

so 73 LJ..

Going thru this myself.
NATRAD list one for all Toranas LC thru UC.
Obviously not going to fit all models properly.
Rare Spares are looking into this as we speak and hope they come up with good fitting cores for us.
Their LX core supplied is way skinnier and only available with 2X 5/8" pipes.
LH and early LX had 5/8" & 3/4" pipes. Not sure what they supply for LC & LJ.
Here is the difference.

It will be recore only. There is only two cores listed that will do the job, only difference is the thickness and therefore the style of core is also different. Depending on which heater you have will depend on the core used. The two show above flows in different was, one down one side then back up, the other down the front and then up the back. The thicker core wont suit the front to back style as there will be a row of tubes in the way of the tanks.

I don't believe the position of the tubes through the end plates would be much of an issue, rather It is the design of the end plates that dictates which OEM tanks can be fitted to which OEM core.

My OEM cores are dated B3 and E0

Mmm, yes and no. One of the cores available will probably do both style of heater as long as measurements are exactly the same between the two styles. One of the cores is a staggered tube core (stc). It is a 3 row core that, by name has a staggered arrangement of cores so can't be used on the heater that has the"baffle" down the centre. There are a row of tubes in the way. But that's just the nitty gritty that a radiator guy should know.

Ok, I couldn't see that the LC core has a staggered third row of tubes and I'm not about to wreck the core to find out. Thanks for the info.

Cheers

Dave.
