I wouldn't be too worried about what a certain rude and obnoxious "someone" says, when they are in fact the son of a certain business owner and he often posts on forum threads to shut down those that have a not so positive experience with his fathers business.

Cheers Mick.

My effort.... I dont like how the "A" turned out.. Ill redo that letter.. This one is my "test" dash....

Total cost.. I can of oven cleaner, some  paint and time.. Better than the quoted figure. :stirpot:

Im doing another a different way. Im not to happy how the chrome silver dulled off when I cleared it to seal.. Ill redo another with "chrome" vinly. Ill post that when done..

I have access to the water based chrome painting system. I might try that as well....

Thats the way.. Looks the goods and way cheaper than using the so called "pros"...

I did a set using sign vinyl only on top of the satin black.... Painted some fresh panels..The chrome sticks very well and is true chrome looking with white lettering... Used 1.8mm chrome pinstripe I cut with the lettering.

I think Ill go this way as its the easiest/quickest way to do with the best results and the chrome will not scratch or fade off ever.. Its tough stuff. and can be reproduced exactly the same time and time again..

Ill take off all the silver chrome I painted on the other 4 and start again... only want to do it once..

Ill do my instrument dash this way as well...

Im happy..

guys, before you ask.. No I wont do for anyone else.. I have 6 sets to do for me and buy then I will be over dash fixing.. :-)

Mike

Not correctly as the chrome was original  Vacuum metalized. After all the work I have now seen how it was done back then.. and these are a bit second rate, compared to the proper chrome... But they will do... It looks the part.. At least it wont ware off. and for a backyarder.. Its ok..

There is a guy in VIC who does the proper chrome.. Ill contact him and see.. probably wont like the price though...

I use vinegar to neutralise and clean off the oven cleaner then a decent plastic cleaner as per pic. Then acrylic paint..

If it's the one I'm thinking of, he said to me they weren't vacuum metalised in the same way as the HK/T/G's and Falcons. The highlight was the only part that was chromed on the LC under dash and instrument cluster. I think with the vacuum metalised finish, they have to do virtually the whole panel, then recolour everything leaving just the highlight exposed. And he quoted about $400 for the under dash to do it the same way as a HT etc
